If what you are thinking were true, the clock would reset every time the battery was disconnected. That's not the case...

Just a guess, but betting there's a watch battery that's SUPPOSED to power that clock when the sled is shut off. Without it, it's going to do what you describe. Just like a computer with a dead CMOS battery that asks for the time/date every time you power it up....
