I lost about 5mph on the speedo, not sure what that translates to on GPS. Definitely more resistance and rotating mass so that has to be a bit slower, but I think the speedometer number might be more honest with more traction due to less track spin.
I wouldn't even consider a 1-ply for that...
Really depends what you are looking for.
For durability the 2-ply Ripsaw variants are hard to beat, especially with increased power in the plans.
The 1" will be faster on the lake, but IMO 1.25" is the bare minimum for most trail riders for traction/braking. Even a well studded 1.25" does a lot...
I switched to a 1.5" Ripsaw2 this season and put 192 Gold Diggers in it in a 4-2-4-2 pattern including the outside bands. The traction is night and day compared to my previous 1.25" Rispaw2 with 144 center only studs. Yes this is at the expense of approximately 5mph off the top end and some...
Yamaha really is missing the boat, especially when it comes to not giving preferential treatment to people who spring ordered a 2022 that Yamaha was unable to honor their end of the bargain.
Unfortunately supply chain issues persist. It would be interesting to see numbers as to how many sleds...
Thanks for the replies everyone.
I went with the 1.5" RipsawII and 192 1575 Gold Diggers with 48 double digger and 96 single diggers.
Planning to go with this pattern recommendation also from Woody's. Once installed I'll post pictures of both my original and new track setups.
I also spoke to...
Woody's has an "interesting" way of measuring and identifying their studs. The 1.575 series studs are what they recommend for a 1.5" height and should give 3/8s penetration. The overall stud length is supposed to be 1.98 with the installed height being 1.825...
Thanks for the response, how many miles have you put on your set-up?
To clarify, I've bent a few Woody's signature series, they are Woody's cheaper/entry-level studs and stainless steel which I believe is a bit softer than the hardened steel of the Gold Diggers or Megabites.
Greetings,
After close to 10,000 miles my OEM 1.25 RipsawII with 144 Woody's signature series is getting pretty tired. The track has held up well, no pull thrus but I've had a few bent studs and issues with the nuts loosening. All double backers and center only. The studs are bit on the short...
Thanks for the reply, glad to hear it is a 2-ply track. Of course the dealer doesn't really know their product as I asked the question and they said it was a single ply.
Can anyone chime in on durability of the 2-ply Cobra for high speed trail use?
Dealer also doesn't appear willing to...
Greetings,
I'm considering trading my 2017 Sidewinder LTX-SE and going to a 2022 Sidewinder XTX-LE.
My current sled has served me quite well and has around 10,000 miles on it with the original 1.25 Ripsaw2. Usage is 95% aggressive trail riding, but I do need to occasionally break trail into my...
I'm also in the market for a new track this year.
The original Ripsaw2 Quiet Pad track on my LTX still looks to be in decent shape, However after 6500 miles (half of which at 280hp) including lots of prolonged high speed runs I'm concerned for its well-being. Losing a track at high speed isn't...
I've got 5500 miles on the Tuner 3s with stock carbides. With the center spring at the factory location, 99% of the time they bite and turn very well and flat in hardpacked conditions, although with fairly significant steering effort. However as others have said, every once in awhile in softer...
As much as I'd like to see the hyper sled wars take off again I just can't see it happening. While many of us here like the big power, and reliability of the 4s turbo, the majority of the market still prefers the lighter and more nimble 2s sleds We probably have some of the best wide, flat high...
My track still looks good, but I'll be replacing it before next season for peace of mind.
The Ice Storm does seem like an interesting option for sure. I'd like to be done with the hassle of studding, but I hate to give up any traction or braking ability. The ice storm also has significantly...
