This is a question from a couple years ago.
I did pull the valve cover and checked all valve clearance at 16,000 miles. Made some very minor shim adjustments just because I had it apart and wanted it perfect while I was already there.
Wasn't worth taking it apart at that mileage if it's any...
Stock donuts blew out on my 2011 Apex and I replaced them with the copper donuts. After not too many more miles one of the flanges on the pipe to the ex-up broke.
Ended up buying a repair sleeve where you cut the bad flange off and slip the repair sleeve over the top of the pipe. This fix has...
The peek video reminds me of the teaser for the 2011 Apex models and looks like a renewed buzz generator. Yamaha may have a hand in engineering the new platform but, who knows.
Yamaha likely helping Arctic Cat design their engines because they never built their own until the partnership began...
2011 Apex XTX with 14,000 miles and well cared for and runs fine:
Reading posts about checking valve clearances I decided it would be a good idea to check mine considering the mileage. The manual I have for 2006 to 2010.
Are the adjustment instructions and clearance specs the same for 2011 and...
Thanks for the input guys. I rarely lock up the brakes and normally only to avoid something. I'm mainly interested in the durability and if the roller kit makes any noticeable difference.
I did put 96 studs in the track because we mainly ride the local river so, don't want to be without them. The stock 1" ripsaw isn't enough traction and would be better with maybe a 1-1/4" ripsaw or even a Cobra.
Still lots of fun on hard pack with the studs. The handling is surprisingly good too...
Has anyone tried the Hauck roller secondary mod on an Apex?
I'm considering trying it to eliminate the belt chirp that happens when getting on the brakes hard then back on the gas and the tell tale belt rubs on the under side of the belt guard.
Looking for experienced feedback.
I bought a low mileage 2009 Phazer RTX last season for my grandson to ride thinking they weren't very powerful and maybe 60 mph. After having it for two seasons now I really like this sled.
Snow-Tech or Yamaha Bash-tech or Ski-doo-Tech...whatever you want to call them; had an article calling the...
If it's already been said sorry but: Yamaha does in fact already make a snow bike. I saw one in person on the showroom floor at Pat's Yamaha in Greenland MI two weeks ago. I would have taken a picture of it to post but my smart (stupid) phone battery went dead from being cold.
As a 40 year...
One other thought. Just because you have new plugs doesn't mean they are 100% good. New ones can be bad or work part time. May be worth a second look. They are small delicate little SOB's and a bit of a trick to get them in. Maybe the gap in one of them has been pushed closed. You mentioned flat...
Dumb question...did you wrap the helix the right direction? Stock secondary spring is pink. We switch all 5 Apex's in our riding group to white at 60 wrap. None of them have any issues hitting 10,800 to 11,000 rpm.
As others mentioned, make sure the track spins freely. Remove the belt and hike...
Does anyone know if there are different CO settings between a 2007 Apex and a 2008?
We have one of each year in our stable and the 2007 acts like it is lean at idle and hesitates when trying to rev it up.
The 2008 seems fine and revs up more crisp.
I remember from a few years ago that some guys...
Kind of depends on the rider weight. I also have a set of Nytro springs in my 2011 Apex XTX with a star suspension kit and a heavier center shock spring. They are too light for it and I run the spring adjuster on high all the time. I weigh 190 geared up. It works well for me as it is. If used...
Has anyone had an RX-1 head crack or blow the head gasket?
Is it possible to pull the head with the engine in the sled?
Thanks in advance for any input.
RX-1 carbs
Had a similar issue on an RX-1 of one of my buddies. We cleaned the carbs several times and could never get it to run right.
Ended up figuring out to replace all four needle and seats for the floats. Alchohol in fuel is hard on the aluminum needles and causes them to corrode, swell...
trailers
Don't know about an 18 footer but, my buddy just bought a 7' by 29' Legend brand inline trailer.
I used it last weekend to haul 3500 pounds of sheet rock, pulled it down the interstate with my GMC Sierra 1500 and am extremely impressed with how easy it pulls and tracks.
I put a...
Nytro XTX studs
My son has been running the 152 pattern Woody's mega-bite 1.325" studs in his Nytro XTX since it was new in 2009. No added protection and 5800 miles with no issues at all.
This is the Ripsaw 1.25" track. Best advice for studs...don't spin the crap out of your track and your...
Star suspension in an Apex XTX
I ran this all of last winter and it does soften up the suspension a lot. In stock form the Apex suspension does work well for wash board trails and larger bumps but, the ride is a little harsh. The sled does handle well at any speed you want to run in stock form...
