I believe there are only two types of brackets, small and med/large windshield. The small windshield is so small it would be obvious that bag doesn't fit. If you have the room to put that bag between your spedo and the windshield then you have a med or tall windshield. Or just post a picture

Why would it melt the plastic? The stock exhaust isn't coated. If you took the seat off you can lay the Q on top, line up mounting location, and eyeball the cut. Is the Q a tapered expansion that slips over the stock pipe? Putting the stock back on may require taking the whole system off...
