Do not use the gasket that comes with the header- it will fail. After the ulmer header gasket failed I put a oem gasket on and have had no issues.

Do not use the junk gasket that comes with the header- use the stock gasket and it wouldnt hurt to do a few heat cycles and retorque the fasteners before you put it all back together.

Yes i skipped them on mine- they weren't even close. I havent cut an access panel yet but after removing it 3x already, I will be cutting it. I have a heavy duty access panel and was going to just leave the plastic skid plate open

Mine didnt lineup either and I didnt put anything in there. There is plenty of fasteners to hold it in place- you can cut the access panel out so you dont have to drop the whole skid plate to change the oil. p

Pull your side stator cover off and you can access a small hole to see if your rods are heat treated and you can try the file test.

there isnt a bad year. The 17 has the 16 internals and still isnt compatible with the mpi turbo. They should all be heat treated. Long term 16's with the bad rods is not certain yet. Your best bet is to buy one of the leftover 14's that the dealers have for around 7,000$ or 7500$. If you want...
