Polaris 600's are pretty dependable....
FWIW my riding buddy who has done almost all of my 4600 miles with me, has done it trouble free on a 2006 Polaris Dragon 600. His mileage sucks, but other that that he's witnessed my many breakdowns, he hasn't had one, and I do 5X the maintenence he...
Fuel pump relay, similar to the relay problem on the trouble free RX-1's and Apex's. And yes, I had this problem..........Try kicking the sled, helps jiggle the relay, sled usually starts.
Nice fix eh?
Lots of slop in the steering is "normal". 1/4" slop in the A-arms is getting excessive. When the bushings on mine wore out, the "hubbed" end cracked off, increasing the amount of play a lot. Funny thing was, when the new lower A-arms were installed under warranty, I got all new bushings for...
Cutting the frame to fix the starter is ridiculous, and unnecessary. And if you get the starter out, Yamaha will likely give you a new one under warranty or goodwill.
mine too
Mine was all over the limiter when it was new. I put heavier rivets in all 3 positions on the primary clutch flyweights. I gained 6 mph once the revs came down to 11 600ish
6"woodies doolys eliminated the heavy steering, darting and fishtailing, totally transformed the handling for me. I also think that too much front track spring pressure causes the off throttle instability but I'm not positive.
It seems that the number of problems depends on the model, FX being the worst, GT's the best. And directly porportional to the amount of miles on the sled, which is typical.
Just a note - A fuel injector relay is a 30 minute problem to some, or an entire weekend to others. Mine glitched and I...
The starter clutch turns in the engine oil, there is a caution in the service manual to use in order to avoid clutch slippage use SAE 0W30 API service SE, SF, SG or higher or CD (diesel oil!?)
Also do not use energy conserving II or higher.
Or whatever helps you sleep.....
I think the pieces coming off the shaft are doubled up right where it breaks. I wonder if people with Y.E.S. are getting the good fix, while others...?
So much negativity! Anyhow it is probably related to the link or bent shaft near the link, as cannon mentioned above.
Best of luck with Yamaha. They generally fix things up, just gotta play their game, thats all.
I found the benefit of the anti bottoming kit was that I could soften the spring setting a little, and still have improved bottoming resistance. There are 3 mounting positions for the rollers.
