WOW - Photobucket came to their sences and allowed for 3rd-party hosting, my pics are back up again.

I have added an index to help you guys navigate the thread.
The index will cover all major work and How To's.
How To's are outlined using BOLD letters

kinger - Thank you for the great idea of adding an index to my thread. :rocks:
Due to the site rebuild and Conversion I have changed the Index to fit the New setup.
The Index was far to long to fit the max post length.
Each year has been moved into it's own post, links below.

Looking good rxrider!

I looking forward to hear the report on that ZX2 skid - and if it withstands the "excellent" Norwegian
groomed trails and boost.

How many ah (amper) is the new battery? I was think of doing the same thing to drop some weight.

SEASON 2007/2008

The turbo project never ends - new stuff to install before the coming season. My major focus this year is in the suspension department, I'm installing Fox floats in the front and 136" AD-Boivin ZX-2 in the rear. Other than that nothing big is going in. I will consentrate on doing small improvements and tweaks as well as periodical maintanence, worn part will be replaced if needed. I will take off a few lbs from the sled as well. All my work will be covered in this thread. Maintanence procedures will be described in a step by step fashion both with text and with pics to go with it.

To do list:
- Kachessing the battery - thanks Kachess for the idea and your writeup with pics on the battery relocation.
- New '05 coils is going in to replace the arcing '03 coils.
- C10EK spark plugs.
- Rejetting the pilot circuitry, too lean at idle and partial throttle riding with the 17.5 pilots in. I'm going with the 22.5 to richen up that area.
- Front end bushing kit. Unluckily the 4 bushings to the lower A-arms were missing in the kit.
- Replacing bolts, washers and collars on the right side A-arms. Parts were bent when hitting a rock back in '03, time to change them out.
- Oil filter and oil.
- New Yamaha mountain skis. They're going in later, will ride the Slydogs with the new suspension before I make the change.
- Installing Fox floats in the front.
- Installing Ski-Doo extrovert drivers. The Whalbros lasted 2 seasons, they are junk, they started to melt when doing hi-speed runs late last season.
- Replace the speedo side drive axel bearing. I change it before every season for the piece of mind.
- Installing ZX-2 136" skid.
- Installing carb heat shut off valve.
- Relocate rear cooler.

Update - October 14.

Tear down was done that day. Been waiting for parts ever since. Some pics of stuff to install, and some from the tear down. Here's some pics taken on October 14.

New CR10EK spark plugs and new 2005 RX-1 Coils

Comparing the new Yuasa YTZ10S to the old YTX20L-BS it replaces, quite a difference in size and only half the weight of the old one.

Update - November 10.

Battery relocation is almost done, need a strap to tighten the battery down. Front end bushing kit done except for the missing bushings. More pics to come.

UPDATE - November 11. - Battery and front end bushing install.

The new YUASA YTZ10S battery holds 8.6 AH with a 190 CCA capacity. It's the stock Yamaha YZF R1 motorcycle battery.

I did cut some off the bulkhead to be able to get the battery into place inside the bulkhead. I opened up the hole to the right of the Voltage Regulator and Rectifier, seen from the front. I measured 1 inch to the right from the centre of the bulkhead halves and made the cut.

The YTZ10S battery fits like a glove in the bottom of the bulkhead. To make the battery wires reach the battery inside the bulkhead I did follow Kachess recommendations and switched the two black negative ground cabels. The one that went to the charger inlet is now connected to the battery and vice versa, the red batery cable is long enough and fits perfect. The wires are routed over the cross member so they do not interfere with the steering.

Bushing kit install, done.

I will pick up more parts at my dealer tomorrow and continue the install of the A-arms.

The outdoor pic was taken 2 days ago. We have got one more inch of fresh powder since. Think snow, winter is closing in on us :)

More pics to come.

That would be a record snow for Eastern Iowa! Ride!

I will go riding later this week. Going to pick up my '05 at my fathers farm. Will take it for a few miles spin in the fields :) Will take season starter pics of odo and sled for my Norwegian ride review thread.

BTW - How is temps in Iowa City these days?

looks good...Glad to see someone that actually takes care of their turbo sled on these parts...too many stupid people here with too much hp...

(like I was on my turbo) :o|

UPDATE - November 12. - Installing the front end and Fox Float Air Shocks.

Going out to install the front end this evening. I hope to finish off the A-arms, spindles, install the Fox Floats and the Slydogs. More pics ... later

- Lower A-arm bushings installed.
- A-arms installed into bulkhead.
- Fox Floats installed.
- Adjusted the Fox Flots to the basic setting of 50 psi of pressure, glad I checked cause they were way below on pressure, only 35-40 psi from factory.
- Spindle and Slydog ski on the right hand side installed.

Could not install Spindle and ski on left hand side, upper A-arm mounting bushing on the spindle went missing, had to order them from my local dealer. What a bummer grrrrrrr, waiting for parts, again. I also have to find a suitable strap to tighten down the battery.

Some pics of what i accomplished today.

UPDATE - November 13. - Finishing off battery relocation, installing fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator.

Parts bought/ordered:
- Got hold of a useable strap for the battery.
- Placed the order for 2 bushings, spindle to upper A-arm connection.
- Bought a gallon of Yamalube 0-30 oil.
- Bought speedo side drive axel bearing.
- Got the mail from Jeff, the ZX-2 is coming my way, can't wait to have it installed :-o .

Work done today:
- Finished off the Kachess battery relocation, got it strapped down real well. I let the strap go over the top of the battery and under the cross members. I took the old battery cover and cut it down to about 1" height. I did cut out a piece on the side for the cables, then I cut a groove in the front of the cover for the strap to sit in, and placed it on top of the battery. Finally I connected the strap on top of the battery and tighten it down. There is no way the battery and cover can move now. Pics of the finished install below.

- Installed ECU. Had to cut off the ear that went over the cross member, also had to bend the the ears with the bolt holes at an angle for the ECU to stay clear of the battery.

- Installed Fuel pump bracket and fuel pump.

- Installed fuel pressure regulator.

- Installed C10EK spark plugs. Man it's some work changing out plugs on a turbo sled with all piping, plumbing, lines, wires, Vortech and cables going in all directions over the head cover :ORC

- Installed new coils, the '03 coils were arcing like a thunderstorm.

- Added new black tape where I had used yellow and red tape earlier, made it look much nicer under the hood.

- Tried to figure out how to install the carb heat shut off valve. The valve is the one found on the mountain sleds. Anyone have a pic on how this valve is installed?

Here's a few pics:

UPDATE - November 15. - Carb tuning, changing pilot jets.

Went to pic up the 2 spindle bushings today, got one of them, the other was on back order, what a bummer, still waiting for parts.

The ZX-2 is on it's way, it arrived in Cologne, Germany this evening. I guess it will arrive in Norway tomorrow, hope to have it at my door by wednesday next week.

Work done today:
- Installed the one spindle bushing I got hold of, still one bushing short of finishing off the front end.
- Went from 17.5 pilot jets to 22.5 pilot jets.
- Adjusted pilot screws 2 turns out from lightly seated.
- Removed all lines from the carb boots to connect my CarbTune carb sync tool. Will sync the carbs when carbs and IC are installed.

Pics of the carb work:

UPDATE - November 16. - Chaincase removal, primary clutch tuning and cleaning.

The ZX-2 arrived at the Norwegian customs this morning, at noon it was on it's way up north to my address :) My best guess on arrival is wednesday at the latest, I hope.

I put the heat on in my garage this evening, going out there in the evening. I may open the chaincase or.... anyway there is always some work to do on the sled.

- Opened the chaincase and took out chain, gears, everyting.
- Checked the chain tension before I took it apart, I was able to finger tighten the adjuster 1/8 turn, not much wear on the chain during last season. Gears looked like new with no visible wear to them. No metal residue found in the oil. I run engine oil in my chaincases with good results the last 4-5 seasons. I run a little more than spec cause the engine oil is way thinner than gear oils. My take is that engine oil will stand up to heat better than gear oils and the extra amount is needed to lube the chain enough, the extra amount also help cooling the chain case. My 2 cent of chain case oil theory :drink:

- Opened the primary and cleaned it.
- Took off the SuperTips for adjustments.
- Took out 7 grams at the pin to raise initial rpms off the line. (I did run 14 grams at the pin, 7 in the middle and 2 in the tip). I have an under rev situation off the startingline when drag racing on hardpack snow, rpms goes close to 10000 and drops fast to 9400 for a second or two before it goes 10500 and finally it goes 10400 as speed is rising and holds til top end. I hope taking out one 7 grams tungsten at the pin will put my initial rpms in the ballpark.
- Weighed the SuperTips after adjustments on my scale, it's has 0.01 gram accuracy. Here we go: ST1=77.88 grams, ST2=78.09 grams, ST3=77.97 grams. Not perfect.

Some pics from todays work:
