will the 06 bars fit on an 05 machine? is the bar size the same and it is just a matter of swapping the controls, brake etc.? will I need a riser?

You will want a riser as the bends in the bars are about 1" to 1 1/2" lower. It easy to swap the controls just wireing the hand warmers can be a bit challengeing.

Black, I haven't looked at how the warmers are wired but can't they just be wired in as the old ones?

You have to wire them like the 03-05's were. The 06-07 are different they use a conector at each end. You will also have to isolate the handlebar hooks from the bar so you will get heat.

You have bars designed for one wiring system while most other Yamaha sleds are wired in a different way. If you or a bud are good with wiring should not be too difficult for you. But remember they did not work very good in the first place.

I've done it with the new updated bars for the 06 apex. When I first posted I was flamed so much I didn't want to get pics up. Everyone with an Apex who didn't yet receive the updated bars were mad that I installed them.
I used the Rox 5" risers which puts the bar about 2" higher than stock. Almost good enough for standup riding, but I wish they were 2" higher. I am 6' tall. The stock wires and throttle cable were just long enough not to need to be swapped out.
The hand warmers needed to be rewired. I just removed the pigtail connector that links the warmers together and direct wired them to the existing connectors. They are super warm and work perfect!
I ended cutting off all the connectors to the handlebar controls and put quick connectors on instead. This allowed me to use the plastic conduit insulation to cover the wires and it looks like a stock apex handlebar setup.
I love the new bars with hooks.
I will post pics, but my sled is undergoing a mountain conversion since we are leaving for Togwotee on Friday for a week. The sled is at my buddies garage so pics might take a bit to get posted.
Just installed a 136x2" challenger and did jetting and clutch work.
Found my intake boots to the carbs were cracked and that was the reason for my poor idle and performance lately. Usually I spank my riding partners 900 confusion, but last week we lined up and were dead even.
Good luck you will like the conversion.

Thanks Otis. I have a 2.5 inch riser on now, so you think I will need a 4 inch to be even? Maxdlx

No 2.5" riser puts you close to stock.
