Apex chip?

kool

sniperviper be cool not everybody is perfect, he may have missed the one before, make it a great day, how's the weather in norway?

I sent them an email about their product and challanged their claims. I reveived this email in response.

G'day,
Hereby I refuse your statement.

As a responsible manufacturer since 1994 Magnum tuning warrants for the claims stated in the auctions or on its web sites.
If you read the description carefully you would check Dyno-Boost module delivers 15 %!! extra power ? torque calculated from the original engine performance and crisp acceleration within full RPM range.
We are over the half millionth Dyno-Boost module has been sold or locally installed and we are offering this part to more than 40,000 vehicles accordingly we exactly know what we are selling.

I responede to their email with the one below and never heard from them again.....scam.

You're telling me that by installing your chip I will get an extra 22hp (148hp stock, plus 15% = 22hp or 170hp), show me your testing data, send me the dyno sheets to confirm your claim. The only way to get that kind of increase is by adding either Turbo or a Super Charger. I work out at the General Motors Proving Grounds in Milford Michigan and have been around engines for 30 years and what you're claiming is impossible. How would the engine know when it needs to add or subtract fuel. Well let me tell you how.....the only way is from an oxygen sensor (O2 sensor) installed in the exhaust and a mass air flow sensor in the intake, which no snowmobile engine has, so tell me how your product will know how much fuel to add or subtract at a particular RPM and throttle position, it can't. Just because someone posts or advertises something doesn't mean its true. Call me if you would like to discuss this matter. xxx-xxx-xxxx
Mark.

The guy, really, is not 100% a scammer. All open loop engine mapper are by default fat jetted. (open loop.. i say no O2 feedback) THis allow to tap the air temp sensor, usually a 4K NTC resistive element & add a say.. 330 or 470 ohm resistor in series to fool the ECU to some 15 degrees to lean out from the temp map table. TPS, RPM and all other stay the same & still get corrected like before.

Does it work for some application ? probably yes.
Does it give 30 hp out of a apex ? surely not.

One thing for sure, this 25 cent resistor + the plastic box at 40+ bucks is the bummer... and please, don't call this a chip.

Your right :flag: had one of my bad moments :o| Weather today is minus 1 deg celcius and the first snow is here ;)!

This is from their web site:

Dyno-BOOST is a fully adjustable, programmed performance control unit designed for all snowmobiles controlled by ECU, simply wires inline with the factory harness of the IAT (Intake Air Temperature) sensor.
You will receive crisp acceleration, much more horsepower and torque, with perfect and smooth sliding, with surprisingly increased throttle response. Installation is easy, no - special tools or expertise required. Gain +15-35 additional HP, and extremely dynamic acceleration by up to 30 % in contrast to factory engine performance. It works in conjunction with stock ECU and will not affect engine reliability or endurance. Original ECU program is in process, but the signal of Dyno-BOOST is overwriting it in each microsecond resulting richer air/fuel ratio, accordingly delivering peak horsepower, torque and acceleration.

It’s not as much the adjustments available with their chip but the performance claims that they make. Regarding the adjustments……without knowing where the lean and rich areas are in the stock mapping it’s impossible to claim any increase at all. All they are doing is manipulating the Air Temp Sensor voltage so that the ECU receives a reading showing a colder air temp. then what it is actually running at resulting in a richer mapping. Their system can only manipulate the EFI system throughout the entire throttle position and RPM range and not in specific areas where it may only be needed. From what I am reading it can only richen the mixture which would hurt a stock Genesis engine due to the fact they are rich from the factory in the midrange.

so basically its (the module) doing the same thing that we do when turning the CO up for FREE. but the CO richens across the whole board, and will result in flooding, hard starting, and backfiring on decel if turned up to high.
with this device, its making the ecm think its always colder then actual temp. in turn leading toward a richer fuel call and timing advancements. i had a similar module that i bought and installed in my diesel before i bought my real chip. it had a dial on it and a high off and low toggle switch. it worked and turned all the way up gave me some pretty good power. but you couldnt drive it around town turned 100%up. it had real bad drivabilty issues at low throttle and was real jerky. i forsee something along these lines with this module if turned up all the way. if you read, it says that you have to adjust the screw to each unit and power will vary from engine to engine.

Save your money and spend it on clutching and traction products. Best bang for the buck IMO.
