OK guys cleaning my xtx clutches and believe I once was told that you could put the clutches in a dish washer. Anyone done this? Work good? Or not recommended.....

Thanks

I use a sink full of hot water that way I can wash/rinse it to my liking.

I disassemble the clutches and wash them in the dishwasher every spring. I use Dawn or some dish soap only now as I've found it works better now than dishwasher soap. The key is using really hot water. It works good I think.

During the riding season I spray down my clutches with brake cleaner to keep them cleansed, which keeps them clean. I think this works the best.

Hotter the better, if u use the dishwasher get it out before the dryer comes on.

How often should clutch cleaning be done?
My sled is an 08 with just under 5000km's(3125 miles) and I don't believe it has ever been done?

When removing my clutch, will any special tools/pullers be needed?

If you have not taken them apart and cleaned, you should at least hit the sheeves with Brake Clean and a scotchbrite pad right?

At least that is what I do. I am always amazed at what the brake dust on the surface of the sheeves does with performance.

Be careful about use the dish washer on your clutches, did it once and never again, they came out blacken and sooting looking. Maybe it was the dishwasher soap but never again.

I have had the best success with mild cleaners, paint brush/tooth brush, hot water and compress air when your finished.

Just did the wifes phazer last night... clutches off and in hot..hot.. water... Dawn dish soap is the best for cutting grease... get a heavy scrub brush and a sctchbrite pad or equivalent... they normally come out looking better than new! i scrub the $hit out of all the nooks and crannies with the brush and hot the faces with the pad... works perfert...

rinse with fresh water!... and dry!

You are going to need a clutch puller

Thanks 06, figured as much but thought I'd ask anyways. ;)!

I disassembly mine completely and blast them with baking soda and a hand held sand blaster. Makes them look like new again. I also sand the sheave wear the belt runs with 400 grit sand paper and clean that surface with clutch cleaner.
