Hi Guys,

Once again I am seeking help in your infinite wisdom. I have a set of Cat SnoPro bars coming for my RX1. Gonna mount them on an art. 8 in. riser with a BOSS seat for that rider forward feel. Anyway, the Cat bars come with the hooks bent into the bars and the warmers already installed on the bar / hook area. Here's my question. Can I just plug the Cat warmers into my Yamaha harness and go, or will I have to run a separate circuit for the Cat warmers? If I have to run a separate circuit, what is involved besides power and a 3 way switch? Also, if I run a different power supply to the warmers and don't use the Yamaha harness, am I going to get error codes on the display because the warmers are unplugged? Thanks for all the help guys!!! :rocks:

I don't think it would be plug and play. You will need to splice some wires, otherwise it should work fine after you splice them.

Should just have to make a couple of plug adapters from Yami to Cat. Some old sleds kicking around somewhere. Cat ends can be made from trailer harness ends in a pinch. So you dont have to butcher the stock harness.

Not sure about the muti position reostat the Yami uses but I can't see why it wouldn't work with the cat grips.

Sounds better then I expected. I can easily make the connectors, I was wondering about the reostat, vs. 3 position toggle of the cat type warmers. The warmer itself is just wires with electric resistance, right? I'm thinking that if I send juice to them, they'll get hot????? If I am dead wrong, someone please tell me now before I fry something. That would suck!

Check the resistance of the handwarmers against the stock ones. If they are the same you are good if not you may need to rewire them.
Cat only has three settings. I belive this is achived by two sets of windings in the grips themselves they should have three wires each. Yamaha uses voltage input to the grips to control the heat they only have two wires.

I figured the Cat would be two wires and the toggle was simply a non-dial type reostat.

I haven' t received the bars yet so I don't know if they are 2 or 3 wires. They should be here by the end of the week. If they are 3 wire, I assume that's one ground and 2 hot leads for the 2 sets of wires inside them, yes??? I'm thinking the 3 position switch must turn on the low wire for low heat, high wire for medium and both for hot. Ya think?? If I use the 2 wires with a similar resistance to the stock grips, I should be good, yes?? no?? As hot as the Yammi grips get, they must be pumping some pretty good juice into them, so I should be able to make this work. Maybe hook both hot leads together and run both wires all the time off the Yammi reostat. I'm guessing here guys, and I know nothing about electrical. Help......................

Several guys are using Cat bars with Cat grips. I believe both are two wires to the grip. You can easily check the resistance of the Yamaha grip compared to the Cat grip with an Ohm meter, and you should find similiar resistance through the grip windings. Cat uses the toggle with a resistor to lower the voltage for the low setting. Yammie has variable resistance through the rheostat.
Be sure to connect into only the two wires currently running out to your grips so you do not disturb your thumb warmer.

I am using AC Firecat handlebars and grips (see picture under "4 Stroke Sled Garage").
Though, I am not using AC warmers. Instead I am using warmers from the aftermarket company called Sno Pro (not to be confused with AC Sno Pro !).
The Sno Pro aftermarket warmers are 8 Ohm each. When wired in parallel they are the same total 4 Ohm as the Yamaha warmers (which are 2 Ohm each and wired in series). Same total resistance = same heat and no problems when connected to the Yamaha adjusters.
The reason for Sno Pro aftermarket warmers instead of AC warmers ?
$25 vs. $250 but still same quality according to my experience...

Because no one knows when they will be available and I got the Cat bars used and cheap. I like to have my sled ready to go when snow flies and not have it torn apart waiting for Yamaha to get parts. I was going to go with a Nytro seat as well, but opted for the BOSS High Top for the same reason. Should be here next week~~~

OK, guys here's the skinny. The cat bars are in and came off a 2001 Arctic Cat SnoPro. The yammi bars are in fact 2 ohms and the cat bars are about 8 ohms but DO have 2 wire leads. You COULD NOT just plug and play, however. You'd get hardly any heat and would eventually fry the Yammi rheostat. Talked to an electrical genius buddy of mine, and this WILL work with a 3 ohm resister wired in parallel on each grip. Resisters are cheap, and then I should be good to go! Man those bars look sweet on there, just gotta get rid of the green paint. Yuck! On a side note, with the 8 in. art. riser, I am NOT going to have to chop the stock windshield much, if any. Looks like the bars will pivot right over the top of it. Cool!! Sweet handling AND wind protection ;)!
