I made my whole dipstick magnetic for $10. I bought 2 earth magnets from www.kjmagnetics.com with holes in them. I bent the loop, slid them on & re-bent loop. It picks up 1/4-20 nuts on whole shaft. I'm not sure if 1 will work because they're stuck together & i cut myself trying to get them apart. PART# RX054-N52 for $5.25 each. Actually i think RX04X0DIA for $14.95 would work better. I haven't figured out how to post pictures yet, but i'll try if someone walks me through it...

Tommorrow night i'll go to friends, take pics & send. My camera's broke & my computer is tired. To be honest i'm computer illiterate anyways, so i need to learn how. I'm going to try some other magnets before i post final conclusion, but i was able to pick up metal dust from a used oil container. I won't have "in sled" results until i go riding in 2 weeks...

here's a stupid idea..

what about those magnetizing tools...touch metal to it and it magnetizes anything metal?
they can be had for 5.00 on ebay?

sj; i tried the magnetizing tool, but it lost magnetism with banging & jarring it. A magnetic drain plug would work; if can find one; but this has serious advantages. 1st you can wipe off metal chips every time you check oil. 2nd you can inspect the size & quantity of metal chips to maybe catch a problem in it's beginning. 3rd i would think the whole shaft would have more metal "catching" power due to size & can "catch" while running, not just waiting for chips to settle on bottom. Don't forget i blew 2 cases & am still not 100% why. I have new stronger & specially coated magnets coming tommorrow. Over weekend i will have full details what worked best & post complete details.

Hey, this is fun. Only 1500 more posts & i'll be in ROCKERDAN territory...

Anyone tryed a magnetic dipstick from another brand sled ? If I remmember right the dipstick from the 02 Polaris looked about right and had a magnet.
