I just installed combination extrovert drivers (micro-belmont) and changed the track back to the 2" paddle. When I let off the throttle the engine braking is not smooth....almost a clunking/vibration when decelerating. I can't figure out what it is. The extroverts were shaved a bit so they would spin properly. Is it in my head or do I just ignore it? The chain is tight (I rechecked). Track is also pretty loose.

My track made the same noise when I installed wahls extrovert drivers. After clipping all the windows to try and stop it I finally realized the track was trying to ride up over the teeth of the drivers when the track was being forced forward over them. I filed a radius on the trailing side of each drive tooth and the noise went away. Jack the sled up and force the track to rotate backwards and you can watch it ride up and slip in. You can file them with the track installed and the back of the sled up in the air.

The teeth were grinded down a little bit, but I guess it wasn't enough. I will look into doing what you said. By the way, what exactly do you mean by filing a radius on the trailing side of the teeth. Do you mean file the non-pulling side of the tooth down on an angle? Anyway, I will inspect it. My track is not fully clipped, just the windows punched.

the tips of the plastic teeth that stick though the track windows have slightly sguared tips. When my track was forced forward over them they would catch the edge of the track windows. Driving the track was fine. Braking down big hills it did the same. Sounded awful.

I had the same sound after installing my Wahl extroverts too. I thought I must have put them on out of time but that wasn't the case. I ended up doing the same thing as Kachess. It's a distant memory now.................but my track still ratchets with the extroverts when jumping in the deep stuff....go figure.

That's the first I hear about someone ratcheting with extro's. I hope mine doesn't do the same. When I find some time time, I will file the back tips of the teeth. Hopefully it works.

I rotated the track backwards and the track does ride up on the teeth.

Would I be able to put the machine on its side and grind the teeth through the track windows? I am thinking of using my Dremel tool to grind the edges down. Is it bad to put a four-stroke on it's side??? I am new to this 4stroke phenom.

I was able to tip mine on its side and file them with a hand file. As far as it not being good for the sled, my favaroite way to get unstuck on a steep, deep, hill is to shut the sled off and roll the sled right over. After one roll it always ends up pointing perfectly down hill. I can do it myself, requires no digging, never damages anything since I got rid of my light pod, and the sled starts right up if you pump it wildly while cranking. It doesn't seem to loose much gas or oil and actually the oil light won't even come on when you restart. Mine often willl come on and go off just after having the sled at awful angles while riding. I learned to do it after seeing rev boys get unstuck. Only issue is making sure you don't roll the thing right over on yourself. Gotta get uphill before it starts to go over. Happened once. I'll bet I roll to get unstuck five times a ride.

Geez Kachess, you are hardcore!! Thanks for your info, I can now sleep at night. I will get to the filing some night this week after work.

I took my Dremel tool and grinded the teeth of my extroverts. I moved the track backwards, watched the track ride up the teeth on the one side. I took the Dremel and grinded down the sides of all the teeth (the side that pushes the track). I went for a test ride and same frikken noise. I drove back in the garage and almost threw my helmet across the room. Now I am really pissed. I spent big bucks on these drivers and getting them installed and this is what I get.

What am I doing wrong???????????????? What more do I need to do???? Do I need to grind the tips down also??? I live two hours from civilization so I can't just bring it somewhere to get fixed. I need to get it fixed now because my days off are around the corner and I want to spend it riding, not fixing.

Help!!!!!!!!

I have been told this by others but have not done it yet. Maybe when we go riding together you could get stuck and show me?? ;)

I'm not familiar with the drivers you have, but here is a phot of mine. I had to radius the side of the tooth opposite the side that drives the track. Roll the track backwards to see if they are riding up.

Mine was dooing this too when i put my new track on, driver was year old, (4000km) . They made a clunking noise when decelerating, that was track vs extro fighting together.About 100 km later and tighttening track a bit, after each run, all weird sound is gone except for my chassis that make a cracking noise but this is another story.

:D

My driver look way more worst than Kaschess.

Thanks for the pics Kachess! The other night I ground off the drive side of the teeth. Last night I ground off the trailing side of the teeth. The noise has disappeared!! I hope the teeth still function properly by pulling the track because I needed to grind quite a bit away from both sides. The track would ride up both forward and reverse.
