I realize that it is not realstic to not expect some oil consumption when spooling these engines to 10,500 repeatedly. Is 300-400ml acceptable in 700-800 miles of hard, high rpm use? Should I be concerned?

Broke it in according to Yamaha spec. Figured they built it, they should know. However as you likely have noted I am certainly open to suggestions. Just got off the phone with a buddy and he's experiency about the same rate of consumption, same Yamaha break in. Figures the 0w30 is like water at temp, combined with high revs, gotta use some!
Sorry, Just notice your signature '06 RTX'.
Well, so far mine use 400-500ml for 2000 miles and I run mine very hard. I guess every engine are different.

this is the common thread amongst OIL users we have seen....I broke mine in HARD as per motomans theory...and I agree with his theory....guys who idled sleds in garage and ran them in easily alwasy seem to use oil.
not too mention those sleds always seem abit slower too...
You should take alook at motomans theory...I for one agree with it...much conjector on this theory but I believe proof is in the pudding, with lower oil consumptions and fast sleds overall....who can argue with that?

I here ya! Just wonder if there is a simple solution to correct situation now?

I am breaking in as per motoman as well, and has not taken a drop. My buddy followed yammie and first 600 miles, took 1 pint !!!
its too late to do anything now. Except take the motor apart and hone the cylinders. I did mine pretty close to the motoman the way. I went on a trip to NY to break in mine. I didn't change the oil til i got home (450miles). I expected to find oil in the air box, It was dry and the oil level was full. I broke in my last sled(04 warrior) according to Yamaha and I always had oil in the air box and used a little less oil than what you're using. I know this is a sensitive topic but it worked for me

I am not overly concerned, however I will certainly monitor the level more closely! It is a little more assuring to know that I am not the only one to experience this! Will likely adhere to Motoman theory next time around.

I have an '06 Attak, and ran mine alternating wide open throttle & steady cruising from the first warmup. Changed the oil the first time at 450 miles, and either used 1/2 qt of oil or didn't get it full from the oil change to 1000 miles. I now have 3500 miles, and haven't used a bit of oil since 1000 miles.

As it turns out, my sled isn't use any oil to speak of either, as I'm a dumbass and didn't warm the engine prior to checking levels. (please see post regarding this).

Re: Oil consumption?
Mine at 3000 miles uses no oil.
