Sounds like the chain case is out. Find a kids plastic sled big enough to get the track on, and strap it tight. then pull it out.

How tuff is it to disconnect the chain? Will that free it up to tow it?
Already trying to round up sled though

you would have to pull the brake rotor, emergency brake assy, brake calibur, and possibly reverese assy. if applicable, to get to the chain case. 5 bolts (3-12mm & 2-13 or 14mm) and you can have cover off but you're still going to need a big crescent wrench or 36mm socket to get the top gear nut off. much easier to get sled to put underneath skid as i had to do this and it saves from having to buy new gears & chain case when the chain binds up from being towed.

Forget about taking it apart. That is a BIG job to do out on a trail.
Also forget about the kid's plastic sled... get a WOODEN TOBOGGAN, preferably at least 15" wide, and nice and long. Shove it under the track and tie it on. And apply the emergency brake in case the thing suddenly loosens up.
Oh and be VERY CAREFUL TOWING IT!!!
It will have NO BRAKES, so going down hills may be quite dangerous if you are just pulling with a rope or strap. I suggest that you get yourself a couple of STURDY PIPES -- run your ropes through the pipes from the bumper of the towING sled to the INSIDE or the LOWER A-ARMS of the towED sled. Having the sleds affixed directly like that will make it possible to control the one without brakes from the tow.

I can't keep track of the little reverse gear spring on a clean shop floor, imagine out in the snow. LOL
