do not,and i say do not use synthetic motoroil as it will TAKE OUT your starter motor.this warning from my brother who has a yamaha dealership in manitoba and does a lot of rx-1 racing also.by the way he has never lost to a firecat and beat most 800 and 900 machines and that was in it's first year of the rx-1.if you want to use a different oil use the racingoil, opti 4

I've been using Synthetic oil for ten years now in many different motorcycles (all brands) and ATV's that all have starter clutches very similar to the RX-1 and I have not had any problems 8)
And I have not heard of anyone using Synthetic oil in there RX-1 that has had a problem :D

What Manitoba dealer you talking about . Dealer in brandon and in winnipeg said no problems . Dealer in brandon asked at the training seminar last year and was told it was not a problem . I would stay away from additives with solid lubricants such as teflon, molybendulum or grafite thease may cause a problem with starter . I am running mobil 1 and frictiongaurd and no problem .
