Was out the other day doing speed runs with my XTX and as I was approaching the 117mph, the speedo dropped fast 115,...114..113.mph I could smell burning rubber not sliders, so I stopped and the track clips where warm, not hot.....well drove home and then notice the problem. My 2 front wheels delaminated and cause the front shock to rub the inside of the track. only drove a few more miles home but the damage was already done....now I know its my fault, I over heated those front wheels, as my ice scatcher only start to spay lube after the wheels causing them to heat up fasted....the thing that really sucks is it looks like I need to pull the shock to change the wheels

Yamaha should use this as advertising for the XTX...."So Fast she'll melt the wheels off 'er !" LOL !!! 117 mph

Looks like the same thing that happened to Gems4sale...thats a bummer.

Put a cheap/easy/removable lube system on for the speed runs.
Put a small wheel kit on front of rails.
Pull the front strap up tighter for the runs(on ice).
Your stud placement helped chew up the wheels.

That really sucks. I think that is a engineering flaw. The track should never touch the suspension compenents even if there is no wheels in the suspension...other than the rear and top idlers. It should be able to work just on the sliders...JMO.

I agree the stud placement didn't do you any favors. The studs will hit the idler wheels like hammers at speed.

I agree with you, considering my slidders in that area have only about 50% worn....Could you just picture the damage if my slidders were 90% worn....would have just carve up the track like a butter!!!

Yep Daranello, you should have the small wheels at the bend in the rail. It takes preasure off the front wheels and I agree that tightening the limiter 1 notch would help and also increase top end, but will suck for normal trail riding, but radar runs on ice it's good to do. I think your track will be alright... I don't believe the studs are doing that much to it... Running on ice is a different, because things get hot fast, especially the wheels... It does not take much to delaminate them..

Well at least you're being good about it Daranello! Most guys would just b*@#h and wine about how Yamaha screwed up a design! So tired of that!

I agree with you...my back wheels also hit the studs and there perfect, the wheels to this point with 3000km where perfect, I know it was all heat...SledFreak said:Yep Daranello, you should have the small wheels at the bend in the rail. Now I don't care for the small wheels, slidder where is not and issue at the front with the XTX...
Interesting with the limiter strap...I figured lifting the strap would put more weight on the front slowing ya down??? If I would have tighten the strap would I have picked up a few more MPH???

Yep, less track on the ground, but it would take longer to show it..
yeah your right his slides and wheels were gone I think. Like whoever said at least your owning up to it unlike some others.Daranello said:But I think he burnt through his slidder no???poleclimber said:Looks like the same thing that happened to Gems4sale...thats a bummer.

By back wheels, do you mean those on the rear axle? If so, then a difference is the studs are not loaded when they go around the rear wheels. Along the rails I would expect idlers take a hit as they attempt drive the stud into the ice or ground below.

Hmm, I am not convinced about the design of that rear suspension. The distance from the shock absorber to the track is obviously very small. In my opinion, even if you are running without idler wheels and with worn out sliders, the suspension components are not allowed to touch the track...! Obviously not Yamahas opinion...
