New Tuner skis from yamaha

I got to ride on them, though a short ride. I installed them when it was warm out so I didn't bother to go for a ride. I wanted to wait till it had frozen up good. I went for a ride in the morning on icy refrozen trails. The absolute worst possible surface for darting. The sled handled great, no darting weather you were on the brake or on the gas. No swaying coming to a stop at crossings. The skis handle just as good as the Kimpex Arrow skis I have been recommending for the last 4 years. With good reason, Kimpex is making the ski, or atleast a company related to them, Soucy plastics.
Kimpex Arrows were worth buying at twice the price so these are a bargain for sure. Next years dealers will not be hearing the common bitch, my "yamaha sled darts"

If your dealer has a set, they are scarce, get them. They are a great all around trail ski and are even a little wider than the old stock ski.

Below I have done a comparison of the Arrows and the Tuners.

Boy, you sure do like to try/buy/test different skis. Judging by the pics, the Tuner skis may be a great ski. Looks like there will be more ski runner contact, possibly a little tougher to steer vs the Arrows and a half inch wider. They're probably tougher too.

Don't worry about the looks, you won't notice while you're riding anyway.

Btw, how long ago did you order them?

Well, I gave them a good run on the ice before work this morning. Not too long, about 10-15min on the freshly frozen trails. They work just as good for half the money.

I would've gone a little longer but I fell off on a blind dropout and broke 6 ribs and my collar bone. Done riding for this year. Least I got to test the skis and slides. Dupont slides are working great, couldn't notice any wear in 5 miles while laying on the ice trail, dreading to get up.

back to the skis, they are made in Canada by soucy, I think tjat is the plastics division of Kimpex.

One thing I forgot to mention. you will want to take a drill and drill holes tapering back in the corners. They are made like a bucket and it wont take long to destroy your lower spindle bushings with rust if the water is allowed to sit in the skis.

they turn very easy, I even rode it with shims in the back. with them removed, they would steer easier. If you have arrows, these seem identical in handling at half the price and a little better approach angle on the carbide.

More on Ski's

Adding Arrows to my VLite Tomorrow. Should I shim them or run as is. Shimming made a great improvement on the stock ski's along with Dual Carbides.
Correct, Soucey is the plastic division of Kimpex in Drummondville P.Q. and is cutting edge, you would be surprised if you knew what they produce there. Did a tour of their R&D facility and Factory back in 08 and was a eyeopener. :4STroke:

I really have no expierence with that sled. Do what I usually do. Cut a few different thickness rubber shims, go for a ride and keep changing. Start with neutral in the gararge. you can run your toe very close to 0 with these but never negative. Take up the slack when adjusting your to with a light bungy cord. With this ski, they will go straight no matter but if you get the front of the ski to bite too much, they steer too easy and you find yourself having to hold back against the turn. you shim the back down to increase steering effort and feel.

So what is the recommendation for carbide length? 4" for each carbide? Or different lengths for inside vs outside?

I never got to mess with differnt lengths. I believe this to be a gimmick to some degree. I have used 6in on my arrows for years, bolted them on to many others sleds to try and they worked great. First set I had i used a 4 and 6. was a pain because woodys made the 6in out of a larger host bar. To make the ski set flat I needed to shim under the thinner carbide. Getting to be that time of year again.
