Well, since my wife basically kicked me out of the house (she is 8 months pregnant and crabby) I decided to install the #50 pilot jets I had purchased in place of the stock 45 jets. Nice 2 hour job. So I started my Vector up and when the warmup lamp had turned off I laid into the throttle... no bog. No cutting out. Power was on instantly. That is my jackatand review.

24K miles
Is this a "cold engine" fix or will it help a warm engine too?
Congrats M-Cat!!!!

I hope it helps running quality both cold and warm. The extended forecast here is brutal so I suspect I won't know for a few weeks at least. Hard to believe there's no snow to be found anywhere in the Midwest.

Metallicat, how did these work for you? I have a 07 venture that idles poorly after the temp light goes off but is ok when its fully warmed up. I am curious whether the #50 jets help with cold engine idling.

The cold idle has greatly improved. I haven't had a chance to ride yet this year so can't comment on anything other than cold running quality.

I put 200 miles on my sled with the 50 pilots. The sled finally runs like it should. No hesitation at all. I cant say the idle is perfect, but it is way better.

idle
the idle on my 05 rage isn't perfect since installing the 50 jets, but that is the point of installing them, to richen up the mixture so it will come off idle the right way when you hit the throttle. there is always a trade-off when changing jets. it takes right off now, no lean bog or hesitation.

I recently got my Venture back from service at the dealer (to include carb cleaning), and I still have the cold bog - very frustrating. I should have found this thread earlier!

idle screw
2 turns out, just like with the 45 jets. Richens up mixture at idle and off-idle. My rage runs great when taking off now, just like it should.

Did any of you guys who have changed to #50 jets ever have the cam chain tensioner replaced? I have read in other threads that poor cold idling can happen if the cam chain is not put back together correctly when the tensioner is updated. My sled has had this update done, and the sled still wants to stall before it warms up even with #50 pilots, although not as bad before I changed the pilot jets. Any thoughts on this theory???

Have you run your sled on a trail yet? I have found that mine now wants to idle like crap after even with the 50 pilots, or at least it idles poorly until it is nicely warmed up. I blame that on the fact that mine has been started in my garage 50 times over the past year and I haven't had the chance to ride it at all since last February. I think once I get out and actually run some fuel through it, it will be okay. Yes, I had seafoam in it and fresh fuel, but it hasn't been off the jackstand for sooooo long. This winter is just stupid so I probably won't even ride until sometime in 2013. I think this will be my first 0 mile year since I started riding on my own 28 years ago.

Or I wouldn't be shocked if the new fuel I dumped in 2 months ago is bad. When I first installed the larger pilot jets my sled idled perfectly. We have been cycled through warm and cold weather, rain and snow. There is probably water in my fuel just from the condensation alone.
