- I pulled the skid to have the shock redone, new sliders put on, and overall mtce.

- Seeing as thsi in my first time on this job, is there any "cheats" or "tips" to putting it back in?

- Just wondering if someone has found an easier way to do it.

- Thanks for all input!

There's a few threads out there with different suggestions but most say to disconnet the front of the transfer rod and use ratchet straps to compress the skid and line up the holes. That's what I did and it was a one man job (if you don't count 'floor-jack') but two would make it go quicker. I'll post a picture later if I can find it.

Well I have to do the same thing in my new to me rig.I checked out the link that yammy posted and it looks like you should get Irv"s wife to help you! Ha! Ha! She got his in for him.Sorry monte and Irv I had to say something and I know it can be a bugger to do with a short track I hope there is more wiggle room when I put mine back in.Floor jack is a must in a short track.

skid

take bolt out limiter strap and one bolt out of transfer rod, real easy if you have a bud help you.

- Ha! Yeah, Irv is only a short drive away, I should get him to bring her over!

- Mine is the 136" and I've got a buddy who works for beer, so we should be able to get 'er done.

- I'll try the limiter strap and leaving one bolt outta the transfer rod.

- Thanks again!

The wife doesn't come cheap John, but if your willing to pay her and me to supervise, I'm sure we can work something out?

Going back in should be fairly easy, just disconnect your transfer rod if you haven't already and make sure everything is lined up as aquare as possible.

The second time I put mine back in was way easier than the first for some reason, and I didn't even need the wife!

Let me know when you plan on doing it and I'll see if I can get over to help? ;)!

- Thanks for the offer Dale, but I can't afford your OT rate!
- I dropped the parts off at Flash Fire today for powder coating, and I'm taking the shock to Peak Velocity tomorrow.
- I'm picking up some hyfax at Royal too.
- I should be putting it all back together late next week. (Gotta accommodate Barbar)

Just got the Royal flyer for the no tax annual event .I will be picking up a few things new track, studs etc.Should save a few hundred in taxes. It starts next Wednesday.Thats when the re & re the track will start.

Here's where the ratchet straps go (one on each side)

- Thanks Yammyrx1, I appreciate it.

- Just got the parts back from the powder coater, and just waiting for the shock now.

- Hope to be putting her all back in on Wednesday.

- I'll post up my results.

Many ways to do this it seems. I've done mine just a few times. I try to do like most say and unbolt the limiter strap and unbolt the transfer rod. I also found that slideing the rear axle and wheels in first to the back then lifting the front of the skid in makes it much easier to get the other wheels in over the lugs inside the track. The front bolts go in first but the skid fits tight there and may jam on the rivets. I use a clamp to spread the tunnel just a bit while doing it. I use a hoist from the sealing to lower raise the back. Also someone posted they keep the ski's up off the floor a few inches but I'm not sure what that does. Like I said I'm no expert but just my thoughts on my few times I've done this. I'm old with issues in my back, arms so I find having someone help me is really mandatory or I'll pay dearly that night.

i usually have to pull my skid out every year and for putting it back in it is easier with two people, i undo the transfer rod, slide skid in and put front bolts put weight onto skid and have someone push down on rear of sled rear bolts line right up 99% of time installation of skid for me is about 20 minutes out in the driveway

When I had my mono suspension, I found using a 2x4 to pry on the back arm's linkage to the rails always worked like a charm. But doing that usually requires an extra set of eyeballs and hands to tell you when the skid and the mounts in the tunnel line up.

- A HUGE THANKS TO ALL THE HELP!!!

- Me and a friend put the skid back in last night, and it went flawless!

- Funny thing is that it seemed like what took the longest was rerouting that shock wire back up!!

- It was my first time pulling a skid, and will definetly not hesitate to do it again.

- When it's all said and done, I'm figuring that when I do it again, it'll take an afternoon!

- Thanks again to everyone who offered up help.

- I LOVE THIS SITE!!!!
