Hi,
I have taken apart and replaced fluid and bearings in my chaincase and when it's all buttoned up, it seems like there is too much resistance. I have stared at the Yamaha microfiche for an hour (The view called "secondary sheve exploded"). There's a washer that looks like it should go behind the chain case. Does anybody know the supposed thickness of this washer? (Number 16 in the diagram.) It feels smooth before I button it up, but afterwards it seems like there is too much resistance. Is this normal? Thanks. Amber

Here is a link with some pictures, I can add some section views later. Is the washer you are talking about on the clutch side or the chaincase side?

It's the washer on the chain case side.

Thanks for the drawings. No, I never loosened the clutch side bearing. Is there anyone near Eagan, MN who can help my husband with this damn sled? He is driving me crazy!!!! We are trying to get these sleds up to the cabin on Friday, and he has been messing with this chaincase for a week.

Not sure if this is your trouble or not but when putting outer cover on it is easy to not get shift forks alighned into the groove. you have to move case in and turn shift fork at same time to get it dropped in place. If fork is on front side of gear it wont shift. Again not sure if this is what you mean by resistence

What do you mean by 'resistance'? What are you turning before and after assembly and does it have reverse?

if it has reverse pull the cover out so you can see in there put the shift forks into the groove on the gear at the same time push cover in , the washer goes right in the middle where the small bolt goes.
i just did one a hour ago.
