my buddy is looking at getting an apex. he found an 06 gt with 1900 miles. what are these things going for. is $5k to much for this sled for its age? i know they hold their value, just don't know what they go for.

he may be looking at it this weekend.

also what do i tell him to look at? i know it isn't driven much so all should be good, but suspension, anything under hood?

-nick

(are all apex fuel inj.?)

Yes all Apex's are injected. That is a good price with that milage. Wont see much under the hood, The main thing on the GT is the electric shock, make sure it works.

Seems like decent price. Probably depends on where you are also. My son just bought '06 Apex with 170 miles on it for $4500. We had seen several of them kicking around ('06-07's) all seemed to be in the $4400-5000 range. Very quick sled.

If you want a couple of bargaining chips in your back pocket, check the idler wheels to see if they are original from the factory (solid) or the good spoked replacement wheels (spoked). The originals will fall apart in short order and 6 wheels adds up to a pretty good chunk of change.

Get down with a flashlight and get a good look at the rear skid suspension arms especially the front. Because the shock valving and spring on the gts are so poorly calibrated from the factory on the 06's the arms can take a beating and will develop cracks. A beef up and powder coat treatment from half baked coatings costs about $220. a shock revalve from a reputable shop really turns the ohlins ECS on the gt into a trail tamer.

Fire it up and get up to operating temp (wait till the red light on the dash goes off) and cover the rear exhaust ports with some heavy leather gloves. The engine should die within 8-10 seconds. If it doesn't it means that the exhaust donuts are leaking and will require replacement (parts cost 65-90 dollars) depending on who you buy from.

Take a good look at the running board heat exchangers especially where the skid mounts to the tunnel at the rear. Make sure they are not weeping any coolant. They can develop stress cracks in this area.

With the engine running, press the mode button on the dash until the shock icon is visible. You should be able to step the shock compression damping up and down with the blue right hand warmer switch. If the bar graph indicating the shock damping on the left side of the dash doesn't change, that means the cable to the shock has been severed or torn. If the bar graph responds, all is good.

You can use almost all of these items to beat your seller up a bit on his price. It is a fairly realistic number though if the things above all check out.

thanks. soon another newcomer to the yamaha croud. he for sure is getting an apex. will let you guys know what he gets maybe it's a members?

GT= clicker GYTR fronts & Ohlins Electric Mono-Shock adjust rear

SE/ER= pre-load adjust only basic coil over fronts & tunnel adjust Mono-Shock rear

RTX= Fox Float Gen 1 fronts & Pro-Active torsion rear (sucks #*$&@)

06 Apex all have the Mono rear suspension, 07 Apex RTX have the CK pro active rear suspension, does not suck #*$&@, it's an AWESOME rear suspension.

what sled

step up to a 12' get power steering...exup exhaust valve..and a higher seating position...oh and I have one for sale in the classifieds

I stand corrected about '06 RTX rear. Fair enough...

I must ask, either you weigh 90 lbs soaking wet, or you have had a CK revalved, because in stock form they ARE terrible. I had a Nytro & it was too firm on small bumps, yet bottomed as easy as a Mono on big bumps & any amount of air over 2'

260lbs fully suited up, all stock shocks, and have close to 11,000 miles on my 07 RTX Love it.

Dumped my 07 RTX because the suspension did suck #*$&@ compared to the mono!!! lol

facts rtx skid (which is the father to the xtx skid) is a capable skid...but since yamaha straight rates their valving...most get hammered...do a search on here for the progressive valving that turns the stiff ride into a capable ride..
