Hi guys,i am talking to the demo riders who have had the most saddle time, like tom,now have any of you guys stuck a gps in your pocket and test the new speedo on any of the apex models?? I run a garmin Etrex legend pocket size easy to just stick in any pocket and is real accurate,i was just wondering if yamaha had recalibrated there pick speedo pick up,i remember black john stating he ground one of the splines off and it was right on.

mmsnowbeast, from what I had heard early on they did recalibrate the speedo on the Apex, but I can't confirm this for sure.

The word I have is that the new one is off by 6 at the high end vs about 12 on the 05 and older sleds.
My guess is that the Apex will do a GPS low 120s stock

i really couldnt complain if the speedo is only off by 6 on top end, ive seen 133/134 on my viper and 118 on my gps for my highest reading..

i guess i don't understand why it has to be off at all. If cat can make thiers pretty accurate you think yamaha could. 12 mph on my viper is unacceptable. I was reading 10 mph diff on my GPS at 65 mph.

Ditto! Why O why O why O WHY can't (won't???) Yamaha calibrate their sleds' speedometers accurately -- at LEAST within 1 or 2%??? Is that asking too much in this day and age... the 21st century... the computer age... Yamaha being the high-tech, top of the crop fit and finish company that it is??? Electric start, reverse, EFI, electronically controlled shocks, fancy gauge clusters, clocks... and speedometers that have typically been off by as much as 10-16%???y_guy said:i guess i don't understand why it has to be off at all. PLEASE Yamaha, do the right thing and have your engineers take the extra few minutes it'd take to calibrate your sleds' speedos accurately!
(This is NOT a bash, just something that's bugged me concerning ALL brands, and now that Cat FINALLY has very accurate speedos, it's about time everyone else has upped the ante on the accuracy of their speedos too!) -- Roy

THe speedo's have always be off on all brands bcz of the excitement of speed and track slip on ice or snow. It has always been acceptable for sled speedos to be high, why? bcz we didn't know, we did not have GPS.

THEN RX1's come along claim 120 to 130 mph and everybody puts a GPS in there pocket and claims no way. Yamaha lies!!!!

But ride down the trail next to your Polaris buddy and compare speeds they will be close I know bcz I have both a Yamaha and Polaris. THe Yamaha speedos may have been a little more generous on tolerance on the big end but not by much.

 It is a math thing. When you are off by 10 % at 85 mph and report it as almost 94 no one gets excited. BUT if you are off by 10 % at 119 mph and call it 130 wow those gauges stink and yamaha is lying.
Check your math guys, :ORC I am getting right at 120 with my 800 Poo, I bet my GPS will be less. Does not make Polaris a bad company.
WOW sorry, my 2 cents :ORC

Yes if you have any poo that is not an 05 your speedo will be either off by 5-10 mph we had an 00 xc700 and it would read 114 and gps 104 my boys 03 prox700 reads 110 and gps 105 and has run 108 gps on snow when my fusion ran 110 gps same day now its happy if it runs 100 gps on snow but the analog speedo last weekend on soft but fresh groomed rail bed ran just 100 speedo and gps 99.6 now the digital will be dead on depending on spikes in track speed, but it will read the max it spiked and most of the time it will read high given gps speed unless you are on very flat and hard surface.yamadoo said:THe speedo's have always be off on all brands bcz of the excitement of speed and track slip on ice or snow. Dude, seriously a little punctuation now and then might make this readable. Not a flame, and not dogging you, but I don't even know what you were saying here.

I posted something about this on the RX-1 side a while back. I think people thought I was trashing Yamaha, but I wasn't. They have ALL done it for years, and quite obviously on purpose. It's nice to see that this practice may be coming to an end.

ER or GT?? The Attak isn't in your decision? Why? I'm still trying to decide between ER and Attak.

I brought my GPS to specifically verify the new speedo’s. Problem is, every time we hit a lake everyone just pinned it. I didn’t want to stop and fiddle with the gps while everyone disappears.
