Last Week-end, i get a major breakdown on trail with my 4000 miles Rsventure. The secondary shaft break in the bearing near the secondary sheave.
This bearing is locked on the shaft so nothing fall. The only clue you have on the trail (except that you are on neutral) is when you turn the secondary sheave by hand, you can see (by looking at the bearing between the frame and the exhaust) that the inner part of the bearing turn but the shaft that come from the chaincase don't, like something get unlock but it is the shaft that is broken.
The only warning i get before this, is a vibration in hands above 40mph, not very big but you can't miss it . I then stop to replace my belt without succes and the shaft completly break about 15 miles later... My dealer inspect all drive, bearing, alignment and all is good, nothing to justify this breakage.
A friend of mine get the same problem a about 1800miles in january and my dealer confirm me that i am is second case, all on Rsventure.
Knowing that this shaft is the same part number on all the RS serie, i wonder is some of you heard something on that..... give me some feed back on this one.

Sounds like a bad shaft to me. Never heard of this problem or had it on any of my rx sleds or my venture.

Happened to my friend's 1995 Venture twice (both under warranty ).
Second time, the clutch flew off (sheared off) at 100 km/m.
Still - Yamaha is reliable, and stood behind my friend both times.

I can confirm 2 more case of this breakage in the Saguenay area (quebec) that give me 5 cases confirm, all on rsventure.
i don't understand why it is limited to the rsventure ....
maybe a bad batch of shaft that fall in the rsventure production ?????

Hi tork
In my case, i always been carefull in installing the belt. I found the secondary a little bit hard to separate so i use a screwdriver and carefully pry on the front of the sheave between the sheave arm and the cam to help me sliding the two sheaves. After i just need a little pressure to push the belt in and it is a lot more easy to install it. I am pretty sure that i don't hurt anything in doing that.
i never try to install it by just rotating the secondary that , a agree , can lead to bent the secondary shaft.
