Everyone is making exhaust for these sleds now but no one makes a kit to dump into the tunnel with a muffler. The only ones I have seen use small glass-pack style straight through pipes that are way too loud for me. So I decided to build my own. I have had a few auto perf mufflers cut apart so using that as a guide I started cutting, welding, and fabing up some metal. The final version is high flow, chamber style with rebuildable packing. I took a few pics and even have a sound clip of before and after and the over all db level is not much louder but the new sound is sooo sweet. So here is some pics, let me know what you think. Oh yeah, the picture from the side is going to remian that way. None of the rear plastic is going back on. You can see my Tail light mounted under my seat. All that needs doen yet is a seat brace, and a little more cosmetic work with some black plexy glass. ===SRXSRULE===

Exhaust

Ok, thats what I am doing to mine with the removal of all the stock exhaust crap on the back tunnel. Was going to use a Yoshi set of cans unless you want to make one of those for me? What kind of weight are we talking?
Thanks :pics:

The stock pipe weighed 17.5 lbs. Mine weighed 9 lbs. I would be willing to make more, But I actually used the very front part of the stock pipe so I could reuse those high quality clamp/seals that yamaha put on. Speeking of weight, I'm guessing the stock heat sheilds, brackets, covers, and rack are also ging to weigh in around 7-10 lbs. ===SRXSRULE===

Did you make the muffler? Looks great was thinking single can maybe but have to take the rest apart to see what I can come up with. I like the tailight and was thinking of putting an led tailight on. ;)!

Yes I made the muffler. Its started out as a piece of sheet metal and a 10 ft piece of 1.5 tubing. Here is some pics after todays work. The pieces to cover up the large hole in the tunnle took some time to make look right. Then I built a brace for the rear of the seat and got the tail light permantly mounted. ===SRXSRULE===

;)! SRX did you leave the seat stock or maybe take the trunk plastic out if you can? Your craftsmanship is excellent, that seat bracket and cover piece are perfect. What you gonna charge me for the whole setup maybe? Any thoughts on a single pipe setup?
Thanx :pics:

Very nice job! Looks awesome!
Wish I had your skill ?

What about a pic of how it looks from under the tunnel ?

Looks good, just a few hints for you. Brace your two dump pipes, they will vibrate there and eventually crack or break off entirely. Just guessing, but I'd say you have at least a foot of pipe sticking out there with no support, I'd brace inbetween the two pipes and then try brace them to the tunnel. Another thing is to check your box often. Check for cracks. It is unbelievable how much pressure, vibration, pulses are in the exhaust. We tried something similar to what you built, cracked on the top and bottom. Presumably because of the large amount of flat sheet metal that basically starts to vibrate and cracks. Hope everything works out for you.

Rocket,
Thanks for the tips. The pipes you mention dont start at the end of the muffler. They run 9" inside the muffler and are welded On the inside and full welds where they come through the end cap. I also have inner bracing inside the muffler to keep it from cracking and to reduce the "tinny" sound. The rear off the muffler is also rubber mounted to the cast aluminum piece where the stock muffler sat. ===SRXSRULE===

It will be interesting to see how the FI reacts to the mod, can't wait to see your "on the snow" results!
