alright i have my rage, has a 136"x15"x1.25" track and i am going to replace track next year. i do ride a lot of hard packed trails but boondock in the woods whenever i can. seems like i go up north more and more every year so i would want a larger lug track. i might be interested in extending my rails and a tunnel extension if i can find something thats gonna work good. so what im lookin at is either a 136"x15"x1.5" or 144"x15"x1.5" track for my rage. but im also wondering on clearance. i will not be running studs and i do have tunnel protectors on. also does it matter if the track that i get is fully clipped or not? i guess i've never replaced a track before and i am wondering about that also

Go with the 136x1.5. I used to have a 99 Mtn Max that was this exact setup. Just sold it right before I got the Nytro. That's plenty of track for anyplace you'll find up here plus it's easier to handle on the trails than the 144.
Just my $.02

Edit: Don't forget it'll probably cost you a couple mph on top.

If you have more track, you have a lower pressure on the ground. Handling is only compromised if you stud it, because the studs nail it to the ground and try to keep it going in a straight line. You can fit a 1.5" in there easy, even with the tunnel protectors, BUT, getting rid of the tunnel protectors will slightly reduce the machine weight and SIGNIFICANTLY reduce the ICE weight that you would end up carrying in there. 4" extensions should work fine on your skid and aftermarket tunnel extensions look WAY COOLER than OEM.

BTW: As a Rage, you have more weight and steeper approach angle than MM, so to make it perform like a 136MM, you need a 144".

pimp tracksusa sells 144" tipped up rail extensions for the proaction skid.I would go 144x1.25" since you still do alot of trail riding yet.

I would say 136 x 1.5 or 144 x 1.25 for use on both trail and off trail. Ever consider one of the pro-mountain skids for the 144 instead of a rail extension on the pro-action? Seems like it would be a good way to go, although I don't think I've ever seen one for sale. Just and idea. The last few years of the mountain viper had that skid.

While you're at it, get rid of the tunnel protectors if you're not running studs as LB said. It's not hard since you'll have everything out of there to change the track anyway.

I tried finding a 144" promoutain skid since the 05 mtn viper's came out. There is none to be found.

Just get a six pitch track made by Camoplast. The Ripsaw is a trail track with little fingerlings, not blocks like the six pitch, meaning the six pitch will be better off trail for sure. This will give you the offtrail performance you most likely want. Plus, its stronger to being studded than the Ripsaw.

Here is a link to the track, WHICH Yamaha sells!

And while your at it, check out the 1.5" Free ride track.

im not changing skids, whats the advantage of running tipped up rails? also if i were to buy an extension would i have to remove the yamaha extension and put the aftermarket one on? i guess im all new to this. i do like the look of that free ride track, 136x15x1.5, or atleast better than the six pitch design

Tipped up rails are considered to have the advantage of limiting the contact area on hardpack to shorty-like. In reality, it really doesn't make much (any) difference for lengths up to about 144". Start to go longer than that though, like 162, and it might be somewhat helpful. You actually can NOT do tipups on yours. The extensions that tracksusa sells that are tipped up are 7.5" long. You need 4".

As for the tunnel extension, yes, remove OEM extension and install longer aftermarket extension.
