i know this has probably been talked about alot but i need help deciding what to do. for those of you who have attaks and studs, how many are you using? what kind of stud? how tall? what pattern? pics of your track w/the studs installed would be helpful. i'm looking for a good all around stud but when i want traction on ice i want to hook and go. thanks for the help. :4STroke:

You are about to get a different opinion from everyone who responds.....This has to be the most disagreed on topic on the forum.

Having said that, I'm pretty sure the Attack comes with a 1.25" lug Ripsaw (maybe 1.5"?), so a 1.0" stud won't be long enough. With a 1.25" track you'll need a 1 3/8" (1.375") stud for good penatration. This should clear your tunnel, no problem.

As for brand of stud, again, everyone has their favorite. Woody's are a solid choice - Signature Series or Gold Diggers. Some guys like Mac's (don't think we have them in Canada) and others like Stud Boy. My personal experience with Stud Boy is that they don't hold up, BUT that was a while ago and they may have improved their design.

As for pattern, if you DO have an Attack (136" track), then the 144 pattern suggested above becomes 162. Same idea, just more rows. IMHO I would NOT stud on the outside belt. Many people do, but I've seen more tracks tear because a stud pulls through on the outside. This may of course be caused by riding style and conditions. Good Luck! ;)!

You can use 1.325-1.375 lengths..

you could use 144 studs...(kinda like 96 in a 121) or 162

I agree with not studing the outside belt...

i agree not studding the outside belt. last year i had an rx1 and ripped a stud out of the outside which ripped a square chunk out of the track. :die

I am running 168 woody's signature series in center only with single and double pattern/ Woody's long track template no.2. I like the stability of the double plates on every other row. I think they are stronger and less prone to pull out under high stress.....

I went with what woody's reccomended which is 1.325 studs. This is what i used to run on my renegade so i expect it will work well on the attack. I ran without studs all last season and it was a joke. The torque just breaks the track free at any speed.....

p.s. my buddy will hook you up with an unbeatable price on this pkg.....let me know....

Nice pattern ;)! I've never used the double backers, but have been very tempted. I agree that they are less likely to pull through. The seem to have very little flex and hold very well to the track. :flag:

This is what i run

I run this woodys 162 stud pattern. I use roetin Hornets which are the sharpest stud on the market. I don't run studs on the out side anymore. They tend to pull out and they don't let you puch the rear end around corners

Monsterattak: I too am looking to stud my Attak. I also have a lot of other buddies that are looking for studs this year. We went last year without and I agree that it was a joke. Could you PM me with the contact for you buddy. We were planning to buy at Grayslake snow show but if we can get them before for a good price I would rather do that.

Didn't mean to hyjack the original post. I agree with the studs down the middle. Every other sled I have studded I have run them on the outside and I won't do that anymore due to pull throughs.

thanks for all the help guys. does anyone run more than 162? like the equivelant of 192(short track) for a long track

I run woody's megabites 1.375 in a v, all in the inside

96 on the Apex and 120? on the attack

I find that going 144 on a 121 or 168 on a 136 is ovekill with the 1.25 tracks. was needed with the 1 inch tracks.

It is personal preference thou i guess

108 was the # i was looking for, my brian is slow this am

All personal preference, i like just enough for when I need them but not so much to loose the ability to slide the rear when I want to.
