the new apexs have been reinforced where the tunnels have been bending. It is a very thin piece of material that has about 20 rivets used to install. It is not considered a warrentee item because only a few developed this problem. It can be ordered seperately and installed. My dealer sell a ton of sleds and they only had two apex's that the tunnel had problems and both of them were what they call young hot dogers who had the problems. As for me I plan to keep my apex for a long time and figure it is cheap insurance. They however couldn't give me pricing even though they have already ordered some.

Just looked at the sleds Sat am. and as far as I can tell, only the 07 GTs have this reinforcement.

Wolfie's got a picture of it posted on the microfiche? topic. That pic is from a red 07 Apex GT.

1 is left other is right side, I'm installing on my '05 just for insurance and peace of mind, make sure to order rivets to install them, they seem to be a odd size to get.

Actually those plates were added in 06 to the Apex line (and would probably be a good upgrade for your 05). I'm still trying to figure out if there was a material change between 06 and 07 though (Last year I was convinced that my buddy's 06 Apex reinforcement plates were aluminum and I'm fairly sure the 07 plates are steel. There may be a part number change for 07 if you want steel)

In 07 there were two additional reinforcing plates that were added to the 07 GT on top of the ones you listed. These extra ones can be seen in the following link:

The plate on the left side of the picture was added in 06 and the smaller one on the right was added to the 07 GT.

I don't know if there is a part number out yet for these 07 GT reinforcement plates.

Rex is right the part numbers in the previous post were added in 06. I believe the new supports added on the 07 Apex GT models are part number 8FJ-21924-00-00 and 8FJ-21934-00-00. They retail for $7.84 per side and are currently in stock with Yamaha. I currently have some on order to take a look at

Rex, do you have them on your '07 if yes that extra plate closest to the rear suspension support does it fit under it or just but up against it.

I'm going to order a set of these to add to my '05 and I need to order the right lenght, I've already got the furthest rear ones and I midest well add the '07 while I'm at it...just want to make sure to get all the right rivets they seem to be a specific size I can't find any match to the diameter so I'm going to order them from YAMI what a ripoff on $$

Only the 07 GT has the extra reinforcement plates.

I'm not sure if I'm going to worry about adding extra plates to the new sled. My 05 RX-1's tunnel is mirror straight (still polished from last season) and it didn't have any tunnel reinforcements at all.

If you re-valve the shock, you won't need the extra reinforcement plates

For a small investement its worth the insurance, I'm also using a SEAT JACK.

And if you use saddle bags it creates that extra weight on the rear end of the tunnel and all you need is a good bottom out when you least expect it and VOILA! "I should of..."

Yami haven't install those just for looks, their not telling us the hole story!

The way I see it, the GT in particular needs a rear shock revalve. If the tunnel fails before the suspension does, like it did on mine, the reinforcements are a very cheap upgrade and insurance. As such, I'm doing both to mine.
