Hey all im new here...i posted in a different topic area but now I think I found the right place.

the problem im having is....

I have a 2003 RX-1 MTN 151x2 track

i just bought it about 3 weeks ago.

when i bought it it had White knuckle qc-1 pipes on it. I asked the guy how long he had the pipes on it for and he said 2 seasons. Well when i test drove the sled, it sputtered when i took off and all the way through the rpm, almost as if it wasnt getting enough air. The guy told me just bad gas and hasnt been run for 8 months. So ok no big deal.

Well I bought it and took it home then tried to run it with all new gas and warmed up. Rode about 60 - 100 km and still the same thing. Low on power and choppy.

So i thought well maybe the carbs arent sinc'd properly to the pipes so I replaced the WK pipes with the stock ones (what a job to line up header and exhaust) anyway I let it warm up and bam ran perfect. So rode for about 100km (most of the day) then we stopped at a friends for a road pop and then when i got back on my sled to go home it was acting up again, but this time I couldnt go faster than 60 km/h....

I dont have any spares but i think it is my plugs...maybe foulded up.

my dad said that it might not be plugs cause the 4 strokes's plugs dont foul up the same as 2 stokes.

Anyone have any thought let me know....thx

I'm not an expert, but did you start the sled up again while it was still warm with the choke? I have found that if you do that, or even give it gas while choke is on, you will foul the plugs. I didn't think 4 stroke plugs fouled either, and I found out last year that I was wrong.

honestly i cant remember...but i might have.

cause i left the sled for about an hour to and hour and a half....so i possible did..and it wasnt cold out at all....

so basically just to confirm you should only use the choke on the first start up in the day...depending on the temp?

As a rule of thumb, you should start reducing choke as possible.

When cold I use it but start turning it off right away and just play with throttle instead.

You need to take your carbs off and get them cleaned their is some crap in their from improper storage. When you put the carbs back on they will have to be syncronized with a manometer. Take it to a dealer if you dont know how to do it.

ok...I was thinking about that as well...but when it ran fine there for the day I thought maybe it was ok....

is there a link or anything round that shows how to clean the carbs....Im mechanically inclined and so is my dad, (we work on this stuff together all the time)

changing the plugs prob wont be a bad thing either?

I live in Drumheller sleddog. I noticed your in the hat. :)

you know where is the best place to go to get a manometer?

Also if I have to get them syncronized, you think I should put the white knuckle exhaust back on?..or just leave it.

Put it back on prior to getting sync'd and put some NGK cr10ek plugs in too they are pregapped just install them they will give you 2 to 3 extra hp. When you start cold use full choke and as soon as it starts start backing off the choke mine is off within 15 to 30 sec. When you start warm no choke and just give it a little throttle while cranking it over. One of the bike shops in Drum should have a manometer. Use Seafoam in a full tank of gas to put the sled away next spring. Shoot me an email addy by pm and I will email you the shop service manual for the 03 rx-1 put a note in there of who you are so I dont delete it. One more thing use caution while taking the phillips screws out of the carbs for cleaning they are soft and will strip use the correct fitting screw driver and lots of pressure to hold it in place while taking them out.

Your email cannot handle the size of the manul file I got a message stating your quota was exceded.

thx very much ill send an email to corey to thank him...

i was just looking at the carb..maybe ill get a local dealer or something to do this...lol...dont want to screw it up and wreck something..

also i think i might just stay with the stock pipes...cause we sled at night sometimes and such and the Wk just a bit loud.

anyone know what White Knuckle exhaust would sell for?
its qc-1 style

let me know

I dont see why it wouldnt be. They made no changes that I know of too the carbs from 03 until they went to FI. So I would say yes it is accurate for the 05 as well.
