sorry if this has been covered before but today riding in 3ft of powder in about 10degree temps the snow build up became unbearable for my wife and we had to stop and stomp and poke it out many times as it would form a convex shape and you couldn't stand on the boards. the sled rode great otherwise and went every where the rx1s and vector went. Awesome riding but this is a problem and you can't get your feet under the bars because it packs in so tight. Anyone have any suggestions or fixes?
I am also interested if there is any fix for this problem. I am thinking about buying a Phazer for my son. Last weekend I rode a Phazer in about 14" of fresh snow and noticed that alot of snow accumulated on the running boards in a short time. It might be my imagination but it also seemed like the Phazer's belly pan and tunnel got hung up on the deep snow and the sled got stuck easier than it should have.

I posted a thread on Tunnel Issue Finally Resolved but I don't know how to put it on this reply. I also was tired of running board build up and did not think side panels from Yamaha looked so good or was the price tag. So I totally enclosed the tunnel too seat frame and leaving the bottom open to cool the exhaust, this made a absolutely huge difference on build up, I ride in tons of powder as you will see in pictuers on my other thread. I talked with a Yamaha guy when they came to Munising to Demo Ride the new Nytro RTX, he looked under my tunnel after 30 miles of powder riding and could not believe there was hardly any build up inside or on outside. When you see a Nytro RTX in person you can see they still leave bottom of the tunnel open they just have plastic body work to close off sides. You can still see down under the seat that is open for air flow. I found that closing in completely allows no warm air to melt snow to tunnel sides or extension and over belt holder box or anything else you might have attached to extension. I have a MTN. Lite. and love it, I will be doing a full review at the end of the season.

Dont waste your $$ on the Yamaha panels. They do nothing to prevent ice buildup.

do you have pics on what you did for i love the phazer but not the build up. would ride the phazer more if the water/ice build up issues was not a problem.i ride my 144 rx1 more then the phazer.i do not have any issue with the power of the phazer, did work to mine and dyno'ed at 91 hp
pic would be appreciated
thanks

here are the pictures, it is worth the time and money to do it $50.00. Picture IMG 0959 is without side panels.

Here is what I did to solve the problem with ice/snow build up. I have no problem with any heat issue after doing this mod and I have been sledding in tempratures above freezing.
But, I think upbushman's solution maybe works better because when your in deep powder the turbulence causes the snow to hit the muffler and water is running on top of tunnel and over running boards with my soulution.. Also, you can have a look at how yamaha have solved this on the next year models. I think it would be no problem uppgrading the 07 models to next years. Just my opinion..

Hey big-d no problems at all with exhaust running hotter, I have a thread on exhaust temprature (do not know how to attach it to this reply). With covering the tunnel the temp. at the muffler runs 250 degrees hotter. I have also ridden in 40-50 temps. and have had no problems.

While you're at it consider taking a recip saw to the boards.
Look at the cheese graters on the rev from a year ago & make yours look like that. No more snow - at all!
I did mine like that, works good. Strenght isn't an issue.

Betterboards from Fbomb racing
I rode about 60 miles today in powder conditions. from 10-5pm
I've also closed the hole in the tunnel
I still get a little build up on the kickups
but its 100x better now.

Nice!
I drilled a bunch of 1 1/8" holes in mine. That helped a little.
