So after all the screwing around with floats and rezi shocks on the X, it finally hit me.....here is my recipe for the ultimate shock set.

One Fox bypass shock (aka PSS posistion sensitive) with rezi and titanium spring, one fox float with rezi sitting next to it. It contains all the elements that the better desert racing suspensions use along with light weight. The Bypass gives good stutter bump and big hit ability, the float gives the air bump stop...

What do you think? Have at me... :die

You planning on 4-shocks in total (R-F-F-R)? Or two different shocks side-by-side on the same shafts (R-F)? If the first, how are they all going to fit? If the latter, then you'll have different resistance on the two sides of the skid and end up twisting it apart.

The second option you mention... I did think about the twist, but maybe I needed to hear it from someone else to realize it could be a serious issue....

Yes, the twist will kill it. The Expert X is specifically designed to have two equally contributing shocks side by each.

You will have to work on strengthening the skid in torsion significantly and beef up the cross-shaft that passes through the ride-height adjuster and lower shock mount. You probably won't be able to do this without increasing the size of the shaft and sleeve.

The X is a great skid once you get the shocks re-valved.

What the X really needs is a position senstive shock (aka bypass shock). The new ZX2 has them. I'll be playing around with some before the season begins....

No idea on the specs... When I spoke with AD Boivin last winter they mentioned the G-force shocks would be available for the X...

That would be cool to have an option with our shocks.

AD Boivin Expert X shocks

The biggest problem snowmobilers have with the Expert X is that they don't run enough pre-load in the main spring. Instead, they have too much sag when they sit on the seat, which reduces the distance between the main spring and the helper spring in the swing arm. If the distance is reduced, the second spring will kick in too early or the heavy guys run on it all the time. You end up by braking the second spring or the suspension kick back. You don't have any hydraulic to control that second spring, so the name says it all: ''helper''.

The set-up for the Expert X is no more then 1 inch of sag when you sit on it. 1 to 2 inch for more comfort but that is it. You don't need to loose 4 inches of travel when you sit at the stop sign. you need that 4 inch in the trail in the big bump. Some guys out there do a great job on re-valving, but this problem could be avoided if the Expert X is set up properly.

About the G-Force being available or fitting the Expert X. Yes, we will have a version for the Expert X but right now I cannot sell any of the G-Force to the Expert X guys because the sale of the ZX-2 is so good. I may run out of them before Christmas! I don't think they will be available this season. I would guess more for the next one. It just depends upon when I get my second order of parts from Japan. :dunno:

Thanks Jeff.

I guess that the only questions I have left are;
1) What will the pricing be on the G-FORCE shock package?
2) Is there any way that people interested in this could sign up on a waiting list in case you do have a few sets you could part with for this season?

Good idea LB. If there is a list to be made, I'd like to be on it for sure....

Well, at the A.D Boivin boots last week i saw a cut out of one of those ZX2 shock and IMO there is no true bypass position sensitive in there. Position sensing.. in the sense that there is a "smart bumper" in there to prevent/control bottoming but not in the way that the main piston opens/blocks fluid orifice in its main course. The bumper (small floating piston at the bottom) have an orifice at its top in where the main piston squize onto when going near its end of course, maybe the last 1/4.

Surely a very good idea & good piece of shock, but using 'bypass' is not appropriate here IMO.
