I took my $10 yamaha filter down and crossed it with a fram.

Exactly same filter in fram is PH6017A

Tough Guard number is TG7317. Tough Guard is about 1/2 taller, but shouldn't interfer with anything.

Both are less than the yamaha filter

LB your very easy to stir up, I'm glad smokless posted that info because I did'nt see this before. Not everybody reads every line of every post, and only some coment on every little nitpicking detail.

You dont have to read all the posts if you do a search first. And why would anyone wanna save money to mess up an expensive motor?Yamaha has been known to good-will an engine warentee but I'll bet good money they wouldnt do it if it was running a FRAM.

Hey Mickey

I didn't see anything in my manual that said the warrantee is voided if I use a fram filter.

If you can find that post it and I will abide.

As for a search prior to post, I have to admit I didn't understand that I could do that.

Thanks LB! From now on, I will check prior to posting.

Dont' waste your money on a Fram they are junk!!! Most guys that do heavy towing or have a large truck will not even touch them.. The insides fall apart fairly easy went put under any type of stress..

Last I checked, the filter wasn't a moving part, so it isn't subject to any stress. Take a peek inside a denso filter and tell me if you really think its any better.

Its oil pressure that causes the stress on the filter material inside.. The end caps on the filter material falls off easy.. You can put whatever you want on you $9,000 sled.. I wouldn't put a fran in my opion..

Then you should probably put NO filter, they're all about the same. Oil pressure doesn't change with work unless your engine is already screwed.
LB you can put whatever you want on there but I have seen what fram insides look like.. The are crap compared to everyone elses oil filters.. They are pure junk!

Ok, you've looked inside a fram. Thats nice. Sure they're crap. You would find that everything else is exactly the same if you took the time to look in them as well. I've looked inside a denso filter because I had to shred it to get it off, and found that its just a folded piece of crappy paper. Same exact thing as any fram.

Smokeless did you read the part i posted about GOOD WILL? where the regular warentee has run out and Yamaha has gone good for a reasonable manufactured defect thats called good will.I doubt any yamaha dealer would even try to good will an engine if it had a fram on it so why chance it for a few dollars?

Not trying to start a fight with you or anything LB but fram has been a good product in the past... Stress past.. They have gone down hill fast... As your RPMS increase you oil pressure does too.. Atleast this is what happens with my truck.. You spend how much on this sled... 9,000 and you want to save what 5 on a filter that is crazy.. Looking at a filter you can not tell how good it will filter oil.. Test have been done and fram does not filter as good as others.. No I have don't know who makes Yamaha filters but they must past Yamaha standards... The Fram filter was never test or anything else on the Rx1 motor so how do you know it will hold up in a engine spinning up to 10,000 RPMS?
