not sure on the amount, but I know reverse holds slightly less than normal but I use 75-80 or 75-90 I think mobil 1 gear oil.
I thought it was 8.5 oz? I put just over 8 oz in my 06 Apex ER and that was within the "normal" specs. That being said, it was a little higher than the "reverse" maximum. I might have to suck a little out of it the next time I'm up north.

Fill it to STANDARD .....even if you have reverse...IMO the REVERSE line is not enough lube!
always use SYNTHETIC!!!!!

Sorry to sort of hi-jack your thread but since we are on the topic. The only dealer I could get to before tomorrow(when I need the lube) was a Polaris dealer and I bought the Polaris brand Synthetic (SCL-snowmobile chaincase lubricant). Will this stuff be fine??

Its fine. Chaincase lubrication is not so critical. As long as you have some kind of oil in there, you'll be fine. Regarding the capacity, add in a bunch, then just to make sure, add some more - you can't really overfill them, worst that happens is a bit spews out, but it would have to be REALLY overfilled for that to happen. Too much won't hurt anything except a hair from your top speed.

You don't run the risk of blowing seals by having too much in there?
LB over filling a chaincase can cause some serious heat to the point of overheating. The people who can smell oil after a lake run probably have their chaincase's filled too much. You can overfill them and there is a reason the dipstick has a full line on it. That reason is overheating and waste of hp due to friction caused by the churning of too much oil in such an enclosed space.

Yes you do along with the extra heat causing the case to expand more than designed too could cause the gasket to move lose your oil and chain failure which will take out the case among other things. Do not overfill the chaincase.

You're mistaken.
1) Its vented, so there is no pressure increase.
2) Extra oil won't increase the heat. If anything, it will LOWER the heat as there is more fluid to transfer the heat from the chain to the case.

How does chaincase venting work while still retaining the fluid?
The same way differentials are vented, but retain fluid.jwifferdill said:How does chaincase venting work while still retaining the fluid?
the vent is on or near the top.
I use Amsoil Racing ATF...............
