every 3rd window is closed on my stock track. i think im going to put the bolt in(like flat carr. bolts)bolts in to help w/the dragging. my bud told me not to use the wheel kit oas it doesnt help much and from what ive read he may be right.

- None, looking now!
Fully clipped: Less friction but weighs more. (Improved hyfax life.
Every third: More friction, less weight. More hyfax wear.
I ran a fully clipped last year and liked it. It did weigh more, but the rolling resistance was greatly improved over my stock every third.
This year, I'm trying the pace three with extroverts.( every third clipped, with every window open )

After running the fully clipped track last year. I am convinced it has more friction than a stock third window closed in dry lake effect snow. I would wear thru a set of slides in 300 miles in the UP, and they had good snow! I believe it depends on the conditions as to which track is better. I don't think there is one correct answer to cover the varying conditions you may run into. I wont run the full clipped anymore if I have the choice. It also adds weight to the machine being fully clipped, (about 3 lbs. if that is important to you).

Mike,
300 miles on hyfax, in the U.P.? Are you driving on asphalt, or concrete? I know you are aware of how they wear near the line, and stay there.

What kind of clips were they? All flat? Or some wavey? I've noticed the wavey clips to be very destructive.

is there any strength loss when opening all the windows on a stock track? thinking of opening them and leaveing clips on every three

What about the 14" x 121 Hacksaw, that is fully clipped. 32lbs. A great hard packed trail track. I have not really heard of any negative things on it yet.

Closed window tracks hold the snow against the hyfax longer/better & you get better slider life.

you can also drill out the closed windows with inch and one eighth hole saw and get the best of both tracks.

We found time after time that FULLY CLIPPED tracks make more MPH on radar tracks....
that being said,IMO there is LESS friction with open window clipped tracks...
for me,id like to go with a new 14x1 full clipped...should be light and fast!

I'm with Turk on his idea of the closed third window holding snow against the slider. ------ apex yooper, I would have thought I was on pavement. I took quit a beating from the Cat guys that trip, they wore thru to the alum slide rail in 300 miles. Flat clips, clipped every window. None of the Cats had any sticking issues. At least with the third window closed, you can only smell rubber everyonce and a while. All I could smell was plastic all day, everyday. I have never seen anything like it, we were in snow for the cripes sake. Changed slides everynight. Clips looked fine, not even blue from heat.

175 U.P. miles and my hyfax were toast. Put on new hyfax and they started to wear real fast. Checked the track tension and it was good so I cut out all the windows but didn't clip it. Since then, 1500 miles and the hyfax are only half worn. IMO more friction with every third window open and the cut windows let in more snow.
