“TY Mileage Fun Contest”
2007-2008 Season
Entrant: Hondo
Date: December 1st, 2007
Home: Eagle Lake, Maine USA
Machine: 2005 Yamaha RS Venture
Start Mileage: 21,400 miles
Riding Area: Northern Maine, Quebec, and New Brunswick Canada
Northern Maine, Aroostook County “The County”
One of our most abundant natural resources is snow. Snowfall averages over 120 inches each year in “The County”. If you're a snowmobile enthusiast looking to head out on the trails, you definitely need to ride in Northern Maine. Extensive, well-groomed trails, friendly people, and lots of snow are the right ingredients for a great riding experience. Aroostook County's snowmobile trail riding has been rated “The Best in New England” and ranked “Third in the entire North American snow-belt”. More than 5,300 miles of well-groomed snowmobile trails link to the Interconnecting Trail System (ITS). This season will find out why riding is better in Aroostook County, Maine.
Northern Maine Snowmobile Trail Map
Snow conditions permitting, the entire State of Maine claims to have nearly 13,500 miles of groomed trails available.
State of Maine Snowmobile Trail Map
During this 2007-2008 sledding season and snow conditions permitting, it is my desire to further experience the State of Maine’s ITS and local club trail systems. Just like any other world class sledding destination on the planet, the State of Maine has its own wonders, natural beauty, and points of interest along the way which we tend to explore, enjoy and share with our TY family and friends.
Quebec, Canada
Bonjour Quebec!
A world of white blankets spectacular sights, a gleaming machine whisks you effortlessly into a magical dream. Come explore with us wonderful powdery snowmobiling routes.
Quebec is the ideal destination for snowmobiling thanks to its vast network of marked and groomed trails offering access to all the necessary services: fuel, repair, rental, heated relay stations, accommodations, and food and beverages. Add to this the breathtaking natural surroundings, and you have a recipe for a terrific snowmobiling holiday!
If you like to speed through miles and miles of snow, explore immense boreal forests, or travel to wonderful places, then Quebec is another great place to ride. Snowfall averages 80 to 160 inches each year. Riding on 20,900 miles of trails makes Quebec one of the most popular snowmobile destinations in the world.

Gaspe' Regional Map
Quebec, Canada Trail Map North Shore
This winter we are setting a course to some of the furthest points North, Quebec has to offer.
New Brunswick, Canada
Historically, New Brunswick is the snowiest of the three Maritime Provinces. Northwestern New Brunswick generally receives between 120 and 160 inches of snow annually, while the Eastern and Southern sections of the province receive 80 to 120 inches. New Brunswick has over 7000 kilometers, or roughly 4,200 miles of connecting trails that can take you to one of the world’s most beautiful bays, and also to some of the oldest mountains on the planet.
New Brunswick’s friendly people and sled friendly atmosphere make it a place that we want to return to, learn more about, and share with the rest of the TY Family. See you there!

Guinness Book of World Records
In addition to the TY Mileage Fun Contest, I have registered with the Guinness Book of World Records, (GWR) in an attempt to break the 60 day Epic Snowmobile Journey which is currently held and claimed by: Mr. Yves Leblanc of Gatineau, Quebec, Canada. Mr Leblanc rode his Ski-Doo GTX 600 SDI Limited snowmobile 11,605 kilometers or 7,211.24 miles in 2007 which broke the existing record by 0.4 kilometers or 0.24 miles.
The old record was held by Mr. Tony Lenzi (USA) who rode his Arctic Cougar 60 consecutive riding days from December 28, 1985 to March 20, 1986, 11,604.6 kilometers or 7,211 miles.
I will formally announce the start of my GWR record attempt approximately January 5th, 2008, and ride the TY Mileage Fun Contest miles concurrently and conclude the GWR record attempt approximately March 4th, 2008.
The approximate start date is for safety reasons. I want to ensure all lakes are sufficiently frozen and all trails have sufficient snow cover in order to maintain a measure of snowmobile safety and trail connectivity.
Officials, and Notary Public, along with Rogers Sports Center Staff, Fort Kent, Maine, will verify the start and conclusion of the GWR record attempt. My TY Mileage Log and photos will also serve as a supporting document in order to achieve 100 percent verification of this record event.

Lake looks a little soft in the photo Hondo. LOL
Was out boating today in southern N.B.
Water Temp 33 degrees, Air Temp, 20 degrees F.
You might want to check your N.B. number for miles of trails you have posted above.
Last time I checked we had about 9,000 km of groomed trails not 625 miles. May have changed but hope we are not down 90%.
Have a great season. May get up your way this year. Have not been up in 10 years.

Hi Dave,
Thank you for pointing out the trail mileage error. I got the original mileage number off a tourism site. The correct number is closer to 7,000 KM or around 4,200 miles.
Here is the New Brunswick Federation of Snowmobile Clubs Site:
http://www.nbfsc.com/engindex.html
Bottom line: New Brunswick boasts over 7000 kilometers of snowmobile only trails! I'll make the change.
Thanks for the heads up! We do want to promote the sport and provide accurate numbers.
Last night it was 1 deg F, and there is an ice layer on the lake. With all this snow we are going to get it will turn the lake to slush. LOL... Still soft!!! LOL... _________________ Hondo sends...

That is Very cool!! Good luck.
I have one question though. How are you getting those pics with no footprints anywhere near the sled? You must be jumping a good distance away in a couple of those shots.

Thanks RW06GT,
Yup, Jump and Zoom!
Sometimes you can step off on the other side of the sled and then walk in the snowmobile track.
Thanks again! _________________ Hondo sends...
