Actually you don't need to cut the track, you can simply twist the hyfax and it will come through the window.
While I hesitate to link to a non-advertiser, I've found this E-Z slider tool to be such a great help in hyfax removal that it's worth it. http://www.spankysparts.com/product572.html
This is truly one of those products where the infomercial type statement "It really, really works!" is quite true. Get one, borrow one, you won't be sorry.

When you get the hyfax close to the track window you can grab it with a pair of long nose vicegrips and twist and pull it through the window then keep pulling. Once you shove the new one on I use a short cut piece of the old hyfax to bang the new one in place through the window works for me hope it helps you

Good god, I couldn't not image trying to get those on and off with the skid still in the slead, I just did mine and it took a good pair of vice grips and a large hammer to get the off. I needed a block of wood and the same hammer, also used spray on silicon to lub them up before I put them on.

I'm gonna get me one of those easy off slide tools that Sledder Steve mentioned I do four sets of slides every year between different sleds sounds like it will be well worth the money.

I take the suspension out to do it. This is a good time to inspect wheel bearings, bushings, grease everything, inspect the shocks and springs and check all welds..
I usually find, by the time it takes to remove the hyfax thru the track windows, I can have the suspension out, service everything mentioned above and back in...
Just my humble opinion..

Speaking of hyfax, has anyone noticed any issues with hyfax heating, I changed to a new set on my RX-1 and on my Viper and have had issues with both of them heating up with the new hyfax. Much more than before, I used the factory yamaha slides. We have had heating issues on a packed groomed trail.

Wouldn't hyfax heating be caused by to much track tension or insufficient lubrication?

If the trail was groomed late at night and froze solid, and you are among the first few sleds in the morning before other sleds have stired it up a bit you will have to go slow or you can burn a set of hyfax off in about 30 miles.
Had some trouble with the 98 xtc, much more with the RX1. Have had very little if any trouble with the Attak.
I still run the RX1 and lead and have had trouble, the guys with the Attaks can smell my hyfax burning and they have no issue at all.
If I can hook a ski in some loose snow I will, if I find any snow I am OK, but when there is no loose snow I really have to watch it.

i have a warrior and here's how i do it,cut one opening so the slides go thru, then remove the screw,go at back, insert flat screw driver between rail and slide, pry off about 3-4'',rotate track until slide goes thru hole, start sled, put in reverse and the slide will drop in 2 seconds,if no reverse you can still manually do it,a little stiffer but much easier than a chisel, lubricate new slide and install, dont pass the hole in the front, good luck,30 min job for merx1wizard said:What is the easiest way? check your boogie wheels. Use a caliper or just a ruler will work. If they are worn much at all, you will burn up your hyfaxs faster. Many riders only check the bearings or look for chunks of wheels missing. You may also consider and extra set of wheels, this helped me tremendously and are a quick and easy install. Last season I had to change all wheels on both sleds at least once. Last season was hell on the sleds.

I'm running the 5.35 wheels (polaris) and that REALLY helped on hyfax wear. Replaced all 4 outers and the 2 inners. Still have to watch it on ANY sled on hard pack ice...but all in all I now get thousands out of them instead of hundreds!
