Any ideas of what would cause an Apex to stop running and display an Err -1 and light the orange and red lights?
It sounded like the injectors weren't making the normal startup noise but the sled had already been hot and it failed during a ride coming out of a corner and had to be towed home.
Could get it to restart but it would die as soon as I sit on the machine or gave it throttle.
I'm thinking a wire short grounding out on the frame...
From researching other posts it sounds like a possible blown ECU but I think it would be an all or nothing type condition for that and mine will run...just dies out after I sit on it...(go on a diet maybe???)
any wires running under the seat other than the taillight or likely culprits to check?

Sitting on the seat shouldn't do anything. If the tail light is grounding out, it should blow the fuse. I would focus on the TPS first, if giving it throttle leads to it dying. Also check the entire wiring harness for shorts to frame.

Update:
After dropping sled off at the dealer they claim the reason my sled stopped was because it was down a quart of oil. My last oil change and filter was approx. 2500 miles ago.
They claim the computer had an error code #30 stored which is low oil pressure.
I saw "err -1" displaying...never error 30. They claim the actual code #'s for the errors don't display but the word error and the # of codes stored...
If two errors occured it would say err -2 for example.
This doesn't make any sense to me and I still believe something else is wrong...any ideas?

My 06`Apex ER did the same thing... After taking it to my dealer, they found my driveshaft bearing failed and in turn took out the speedometer gear, that in turn sent a message to the ECU and shut the machine down. My sled would start, but as soon as any load was put on it, the codes and lights would light up(speedometer sensor not working).
So check out the lower driveshaft bearing.
Good luck!

Update:
The dealer called again and said they found the blown lower drive shaft bearing and broken speed sensor as a result.
CBCDAN - Thanks - I found your other post as well. Looks like in your case Y.E.S. covered it? They told me that they won't cover it for me
so you were lucky.
Any others have any luck getting Y.E.S. to cover the lower drive shaft bearing? In my opinion it should be because it isn't something you can grease or maintain and I certainly don't remember finding anything in the owenrs manual about replacing it at a certain milage, Etc.

Sorry to hear that... but why won' t Y.E.S cover it? I would be raising a stink about that one, isn ' t that why we buy the extended warranty afterall. I realize that a bearing is a wear part, but it appears that the lower bearing is a bad setup to start with, so go ahead a give Yamaha customer service a call, my dealer didn 't even balk at covering it for me!
Good luck brother APEX!

that little bearing is fairly cheap$20 and only takes 10 min. to change. I do mine at the beganing of every season, and never have to worry about it.
