Anyway to get the bearings out of the stock wheels for an 07 Attak? I have two bearings gone but the wheels are fine. It doesn't look obvious.

If not, what model is everyone replacing them with.

You can't change the bearings in the stock boggie wheels. In the accessory catalog there are two different wheels to choose from and i'm sure you can use wheels from many older Yamaha models.

From Catalog
Silver ................SMA-8EK38-01-SL $23.95

Spoked Black................SMA-8FP38-01-BK $22.95

What a poor design. My Attack and Vecter with 6000 miles apiece both had some wheels that were either delaminated or the bearing spun out. No big deal because warrenty covered them or I replaced them as soon as I noticed. When I pop the seals on them to regrease they are all dried out and water is in there.

Then, I'm going through my 2000 SXR with 9100 miles and all the wheels are in perfect shape and spin easily. I've never regreased them.

WTF?

Like the above post said, you can pop the seals clean and grease them and get some more life out of em....

SMA-8FP38-01-BK $17.21 at South Seattle Sports Plaza. Everything OEM Yamaha is cheaper there than anywhere else.

Ditto on what Hayatusa said....that's where my last parts order came from.

And yes, that was AFTER trying to get a site sponsor to price match (not beat..just match). Not bashing..just saying. So I ordered from the other place

I went with the open spoke Yamaha wheels with the replaceable bearings. I'll see how they last

I never thought that you could pop the seals and regrease. Are many doing this with success? I would have thought that taking out a permanent seal to regrease could lead to more trouble as there is a chance of damaging the seal or not resealing correctly. I would do this with all of the idlers if it is recommended.

On another note, I have the YES plan. Would these wheels be covered under this?

i popped the seals out on my 06' er last year and regreased them. its not that big a deal just time consuming.

Kenbar,

My dealer just warrantied two of my idler wheels. One that had delaminated and one with a bad bearing.

I had him credit me the stock replacement cost towards the spoked ones shown above. Since the spoked ones are half the cost, the two warrantied stock wheels bought me four of the spoked wheels.

I replaced all six idler wheels with the spoked and replaced both of the outer rear wheels with the larger spoked to match. Now all of my wheels have replaceable bearings.

I replaced my rear wheels via Y.E.S. Next time, I will probably go with the above suggestions.

One note though:

The Spoked Wheels (SMA-8FP38-01-xx) look to me like they are the idlers (i.e. NOT the Rear Wheels.) They appear to have the 6205s in them. The Rear Wheels typically have the smaller bearing IDs.

The SMA-8EK38-01-xx wheels look like the Rear Wheels. On my sled, there are no bushings to reduce down from the 6205's ID.

Anyone understand this differently?

The spoked rear axle wheels use a replaceable 6004 bearing. The spoked idler wheels use a replaceable 6005 bearing.

Exactly..."6005" bearing are very hard to find and 3 times the price of "6205" and do not last as long either as a good old "6205"...these IDLERS use "6205" if you go with these you MUST machine the rear inner mounts to centre IDLER between cogs due to the larger BEARING but well worth it.

You will notice in the pic small CRACKS on gray spokes its only on the INSERT not effecting durabuility, this IDLER has 12.000kms I keep it as a spare

Well I spoke too soon. (no pun intended) I posted thinking that I would have my spoked wheels installed by now but the black spoked idler wheels are backordered from Yamaha.

So I had my dealer change my order to the ones shown above that Apltx08 is using. These wheels use the 6205 bearing which will require slight machining of the inner wheel mounts and I believe will require a longer bolt on the outer wheels.

Somewhere somebody had posted the Yamaha p/n for the longer bolt. Can anyone please post the p/n for the longer bolt again?
