I would like to get some input from those of you that have fully clipped your stock Phazer track...

1. How did it affect top speed? I've heard both faster due to less friction and slower due to more weight.

2. How did it affect acceleration? Once again have heard both arguements due to friction/weight.

3. Did it reduce hyfax wear by:
a - none
b - little
c - medium
d - alot

Not to be rude, but I'm only looking to hear from the people that have fully clipped the stock track on their 4-stroke Phazers... not interested in hearing theoretical or info regarding other sleds! Thanks in advance guys!

Fully clipped my stock track and it over doubled my hyfax life. But of coarse my first set of hyfax were gone in 250 miles. Clipping the track I made it to about 600 miles with a little life left in them to spare. I have posts and pictures of this from when I first joined the site after buying the Phazer. I didn't notice any other difference other wise. Maybe a mile or two per hour increase in speed, but that hard to tell because snow conditions can make more of a difference than that. So I'll say it was about the same, nothing you'll really notice at least.

Oh ya, forgot one other question...

4. Did you notice and increase in noise comming from the track? And, if so, was it loud enough to be annoying?

I had my track fully clipped a year ago. I have an 07 Venture lite. 15x144x1.25 ripsaw track.

I went thru 2 sets of hyfax up to having it clipped at 2900 km's. (did very well according to most others)
Since the clipping I am still on the third set of hyfax and they have lots of wear left. Sled odometer rolled over to 8800 km's this weekend. So with almost 6000 km's on the current hyfax I am quite glad I had it clipped.

Now to answer your questions;

1. I don't open the sled up long enough to have a top speed concern. Once last year the dreameter showed 136 kph on a good run.

2. Find no difference acceleration wise.

3. d - clipping greatly improved my hyfax wear.

4. I can't really remember if the noise was any louder than before it was clipped. There is definately a howl from the track at moderate rpm. I'm used to it now and it doesn't really bother me.

One thing I have noticed is with the fully clipped track (which I run really loose) is that engine braking do not seem as bad as when the sled was new. It actually coasts now when I let go the throttle.

Well worth the coin to have it clipped. IMO

;)!

Didn't notice any difference in noise on mine after I clipped it. If I had another sled that was still running the stock track I would fully clip it again in a heart beat. A lot less worry about hyfax wear. I have also added the low snow wheels to my sled and am using the carbon/graffite high performance slides and I'm getting well over 2000 miles per set now.

Holy crap! I put 8000 kms on my stock sliders last season and I Just put new ones on 2 weeks ago, Are you guys riding on straight dirt to wear yours out that fast?

I changed my stock hyfax out before the season started since I had the skid out for maintenance/inspection. I had 2100+ miles and there was still a little life left. I have close to 900 miles on the new set and they are wearing way better than I expected! However, there was a couple nights last year where it was real cold and no loose snow and you could smell the hyfax burning. I also did a lot of riding at the end of the season with lots of bare riding alongside roads. I guess I'll wait and see, but if I can get a whole season out of a set of hyfax then I may not fully clip.

Good write-up.
Where did you get the clips? Dealer or aftermarket?

BTW, I have 3600 Km on original slides so not bad compared with some reports on here. But I did smell the burning a few times last season in conditions that didn't cause problems on previous sleds. So the clips could be the difference.
Tks,

I had the dealer install. They have the right tool for the job. To purchase the clipping tool was over $100.00.

The clips used are ridged so they hold snow against the hyfax.

Okay thanks for the reply. So the ridged clips, are they different than the original? If so, did you replace the originals as well or just add the ridged ones to complete the track. (sorry if the ? is stupid but sometimes it is hard to get the picture from words)

Thanks,

Thanks,

No problem ... actually the proper name for them is ribbed clip.

Yes, the clips are different from the original. The dealer did not replace the original clips, just added the new ones. I didn't ask or even know what type clip they would install. It's only when I got the sled home and had a good look did I see they were ribbed. I couldn't find the ribbed clip on the Yamaha site, so I don't know if they are a Yamaha product.

I did find these on the Royal Distributing site (camo ribbed clip)
They appear to be the same ones.
