Hey guys,
Got a chance to install Rockmiester's yamaheater controller. I just got to say the install was cake even though I had to run my own power and ground wires and once installed it works as advertised and the grips got HOT sitting at idle, this is what I have been dreaming about since back when yamaha had warm bars!
Overall this is a stroke of genuis and offers a no compromise product. Unlike resistors, aftermarket warmers, etc they all give up the factory control or waste heat through a resistor disspiating it vs going to your hands. Now if you have your warmers on high and they aren't cutting it simply toggle them to off, watch the LED for full RED and you will have toasty hands even if your stopped looking at the map (the stock ecu cuts to 10% power!).
Nice job rock, yamaha fans let the whining stop and enjoy your hot hands today!!!!!!!!

Awesome Kinger!
If you mount the controller above the clutch by the fuel pumps on the RX-1 the wire lengths will be perfect!
On the Apex, this would be the black metal support bracket above the clutch.
There is a method to my madness... Laffin
On many of the prototypes, I had mounted them on the bars, same as yourself, but had to find a way to make the lengths work for all the different sleds without having 5 or so controllers with differing wire lengths.
Ended coming up with wire lengths that work for all the sleds with only one controller!
That way, I can't screw up and send you the wrong controller! (Foolproof for both of us! lol)
So everyone knows, the unit must have a ground, the ground can go to any good ground on the frame, doesn't HAVE to go directly to the battery, yet looks great!
Great write-up and pics Dude!

Installed the kit on my Nytro, Bever Fever's Attak, and Swiss Sledder's Attak this week. Everything went well and the grips are hot at idle.

Ahh this makes sense, I will probably relocate it in the off season as I will get some apex bars, new risors and want the wiring to be clean at the bars for next year.
This thing is so slick, nice job Rock!

Kinger,
Did your yellow w/red stripe wire under the pad have a female connector on it? Did you use the orange "y" cable that came in Rock's kit?
I was looking to wire my controller on my 07 RS Rage and found that the yellow w/red heated grip wire under the pad had a female connector on it. So I dont think I need to cut the yellow/red wire and use the "y" cable from the kit. What did you do? What am I missing?
Also, I think I am going to mount both the LED and switch on the inside flange of the right grip switch housing. There is a 3/8 - 1/2" flange on the inside edge left of the thumb warmer switch that I think will be a great place for these. This is right where you have your LED sticking out from the the pad.
Thanks, G.B.

Are you saying there is a bullet type snap connector on the warmers at your bars GB?
If so, you are correct, no reason to cut anything!
Nor do you need the "Y" cable.
Would like to see a pic if possible.

Nope my connection was like a two wire connection that split into the bullet connections going to each grip. If you have a bullet there go for it no cutting!

I cut my wire and spliced in the bullet connectors if you dont have to dont do it, just need to get to the 12V source from the ECU, be great not to have to cut a wire. Post a pict!

I think that is what I will do next year, mine is only temporary since I leave for a UP trip in 1 day.

Thanks Kinger, There seems to be more difference between the RX and RS than I thought. My 07" RS apprears to have the grip warmers wired in series and the yellow/red wire from the ECU feeds only the left grip which then feeds the right. I dont know about your RX, but I think the only place to tap into the wiring harness is under the pad. There are no other connectors or enough slack in my harness to get at it. I plan to document my install for Rock on my RS and will post some pictures as well. Thanks! G.B.

I am wondering where the fuse is. There should be one in the red wire off the battery, as close to the battery as possible. I guess I missed seeing it. Fuses are especially imporatnt on non-factory wiring as it is typically the most suseptable to not being fastened down correctly.
I don't have Grip Warmer problems. But a friend of mind was asking about it on his 07 Apex today. Rockmeister: Are you peddling this as a mod kit.?

Len - There is a 10a fuse in the kit, its located under the bars, again temp for this year and I will clean up when I re-do everything in the off season and move it closer to the battery. I'm getting a MPI so all thing electrical will be moved anyway.
Daranello - The switch stays on all the time unless you want the grip warmers to completely shut off say on hot days. Just toggle the factory switch to off and that triggers full power to bars and the LED lights red, if at any time you kill the power to the controller you will have no heat.
