I seem to have a frozen fuel relay on my 06 ER. Which relay is the fuel pump? A hair drier got me started last time. I'm not sure which one to change?

Left footwell. Its the one farthest to left looking toward front of sled. Same thing happend to me in UP 2 weeks ago. Luckily It was parked next to cabin where I could plug in ceramic heater and heat up the relay. I now have a spare. Thanks to the posts on this site, I knew what to do.

Welcome to the site!

Fuel Injection Relay location varies on each sled for some strange reason. It is one of the 4 above your left foot. Here are the wire colours for reference.

Red/Green
Red/Blue
Red/White
Blue/Red

Change it out and buy a spare to keep in your pocket while your riding. That is what I did. I also relocated it to the outside position to ease with changeouts if needed.

Cheers. :4STroke:

Oh, you will be asked to add your location to your profile as it is site rules.

:rocks:

What dealer? did he know that it has an electric fuel pump and it has Fuel Injection? :o| Never mind where the relay is and to thaw it out! There is an updated fuel pump relay.

I 'm not convinced how great this "updated relay" really is since I've seen a lot of 07's and some 08's with frozen fuel pump and starter relays. Neverthleless, the 06 relay part number was 8FP-81950-00-00, whereas in 2007 and 2008 it was "updated" to 8FP-81950-01-00

It's a minor problem. Find the fuel pump relay, move it to the very outside of the bank in the left footwell. If it freezes, either pull it and warm it in your hands for a few minutes, or carry a new one in your pocket. IIRC, those relays are about $10 each, and no, you can't buy them at NAPA.

I WD'd mine and so far so good. If they're freezeing because condensation, moisture, etc. is getting in there WD will take care of that. I WD'd all my connectionsand components. Always have on all trucks, outboards. Never had electrial problems.

here's a trick if your in the woods far from hydro,if you have another yamaha 4 stroke with you, back up the sled close to where the relays are and fire up the sled, this should throw enough heat to get the relay going, done it before

I just gave my spare relay to another Apex rider when his sled would not start. He had the dealer replace all 3 relays (not the headlight) two days before for the update relays. So two days old and it was frozen. -23C. Same temperature that mine froze at and why I now carry a spare.
None of the guys with him were Yamaha riders, they were giving him a hard time. Us yami guys have to stick together. :yam:

I had mine freeze on me a few times just tapped on it lightly with my shock spanner wrench and then it worked.

Min will freeze after the initial startup if you shut the sled off say 10 min later then go to restart it the pump wont come on.

Funny a skidoo sdi had same problem on same day last year.
