trailtank installed with OEM fasteners. Just mount them in a lathe, turn and thread to M5. You still have to screw them in and out but at least they look OEM. I also trimmed out the top plastic with edge trim. OEM?

wiked, LOVE the plastic edge, wish I did that, I just cut mine..still looks go thought

do the new screws stay in??? My thumb screws always come loose after 50miles or so:(

Also what version of the trail tank do you have? they early versions had SMALLER thumb screws... I have a trail tank from summer and a trail tank from Jan 09, and the thumb srews are not interchangable

I trimmed the top plastic leaving about a 1/4" for the edge trim. You can buy the trim at McMaster Carr they have several to choose from and is cheap ($2-3).The fasteners have not been trail tested yet but I have shake washers that I'll put on if they come loose. The tank was bought this year so I think it's the newest version with plastic thumb screws (11mm long)and aluminum spacers which I still used. The hole alignment for screws was a little off so I used a unibit and enlarged them a bit which makes it easier to get the hood back on.

That is by far the best looking trail tank install I've seen yet! It's gonna be a expensive tank now if I have to buy a lathe to turn down the screws! :o|

It only takes a few minutes to turn and thread. You remove the bucket handle and mount the head. I cut the notched end off first which makes them around 6mm long. you can buy a 5mm-.8 pitch thread die for $3-4. I have a lathe in my office workspace but any local machine shop can do this for a few bucks.

Ran over 200 miles on Tug Hill this weekend OEM fastener mod work great. Rode several rough trails and never once had to tighten them. I did install the shake washers. I used a slightly smaller washer than the fastener and used a socket to drive it over the threads so it would act as a retainer for the aluminum spacer.

nice meeting you billy100. I'll be back on the hill in a few weeks. Try the adjustments and studboy deuce wear bars. do a search on ebay for Ultimate Sports Inc. $40 each plus shipping- you'll be amazed how these will improve your ride. best money I spent.

I have a good working grizzly mini lathe that I'm looking to get rid off. PM if interested. If anyone needs the fasteners turned and threaded PM me.
