XTX owners, if you stud down the center...
Check the bottom of your center shock mount and take appropriate action.
(see pics after one season)

Cheers

How many studs are you running? How many miles on your machine? Have an XTX as well and will definately be checking this out!

That is why you shouldn't stud the center couple of inches of space in the middle of the track. It also doesn't provide as much grip on ice versus studding it closer to the rails.

Also, switching to a slightly larger idler wheel might help keep the studs from banging that shock eye.

My dealer studded the track was part of the sled sale.
I never counted them but is a 3-2 pattern all down the center.
Somewhere around 3000kms for the season.

Anyway... it's being sorted out.
I'm just giving heads up about the issue.

Cheers

Hey checked my Standard Nytro and it had the same type of wear...not as bad but certainly not right. Anyone have a solution?

As Grimm stated...
Larger idler wheels in that spot may help.
But no matter the track will flex enough in the center over hard spots on the trail to keep hitting the shock eye.
If studded down the center the studs will eat away at the soft alum shock eye until you start hitting the harder steel shock mount tabs.
Then you'll get into track damage.

Ulmer has a bearing kit for the mono chassis and it should fit.
Who knows how long bearings will last in that harsh spot?
But what does last in these skids?

Cheers

ive seen this ware on just about evey sleed ive worked on from jusy the track. studs definatly make it worse. the pro action was especialy bad on the uper rear shock. i had the driver lugs of the track cut straight threw my resivor and uper shock body on my ohlin. cost me almost 300 bucks to fix.
proper track tention, changing the hyfax when they start showning uneven ware by the front of the rails or like grim stated larger wheels and removing ur cent studs and moving them closer to the rails will help. but the steel shock mount will prevent it from rubbing threw to the failur point.

when i use to work as a snowmobile mechanic the only times i ever say a shock rubed threw to the bushing the railed were also rubbed past the lip for the hyfax. needless to say. the rails cost alot more then the shock body.

You should never stud the center of the track anyways... 1 because of the exhaust and 2 because the preasure points are at the rail.

Please also check your front limiter straps as the track seems to rub them as well. A lot of guys around here have had to change them, no matter if they are studded or not and no matter if they have got the RTX or the XTX.

Front limiter straps

I also noticed the wear on my front straps. I replaced them since I had my skid out.

Update...
Tried Ulmer's bearing kit in this spot.
Didn't last through the season last year.
Shock eye is still taking damage even more ground down this year.
I've never seen anything like this on any Doo I ran before.
On those sleds the center shock was mounted to a cross shaft.
Anyway...
Until I change the track (re-stud correct patterns myself) maybe next year.
Any ideas on a temporary fix?
