Difference between apex mountain and shortie tunnel

I dont care about the front suspension, but for the rear does the Apex mountain use the same shortie tunnel I have and just had a mega extension with extra support? It appears this way in the microfich but I wanted to hear it from some one who has been into thiers.

Also does the rear suspension mount go below the running board vs the shortie that is above the running board?

Lastly what drivers does a mountain use and are there any sort of protectors on the front heat exchanger like the shortie or are they not there for the mountain?

Same tunnel, different heat exchangers, Rear suspension mount is below the tunnel, no heat exchanger protectors, Yamaha has extrovert drivers , but if you want extrovert drivers, get Wahl or better yet get Avid drivers. Every set of Yamaha extrovert drivers I have seen are out of time from the factory, and wear quickly. Also the front suspension is 3-4" more narrow than the shortie.
 
Ok I asked this last year but didn't get any responses, so here I go again based on the aswer above. Will a Apex MTX skid bolt right in the front holes with the only thing needed being the back drop bracket? I tried to find this out last season as there were some listed in the classified that I was interested in. I am out of work so a high dollar aftermarket suspension is out of the question but I would like better deep snow ability. I have been riding almost exclusively off trail the last 3 seasons, and while I have only gotten stuck about 4 times any time being stuck is too much work for me. Let me explain I broke my spine in 2 places 2 years ago so I can't do much lfting or pulling at all and I don't want to rely on my son and my friends to dig me out so any extra flotation would help. I personally think the Attak does fairly well with the mountain skis I have and the transfer rod out and learning how and when to work the throttle. Please if anybody knows for sure let me know.
 
post a pic of your front mount on the attak, and I can look to see where it is in relation to mine. If I had to guess they are in the same spot.

I have attached a word and powerpoint document. It has all meassurments needed to install a apex mountain skid frame.

Center section of the tunnel and exhaust crate are the same as shorty. But main left and right sides are cut different (heat exhchagers holes and outer shape - I am not sure if front mounting holes are different), heat exchangers and extension are also differrent. You will also need new outer edges/grips from a apex mountain/mtx.

according to TT the front mounts are the same for anyone wanting to switch skids.

Those are your words - LOL.

I have never checked if front mounting holes from the apex mountain/mtx are the same as other apex models (short or attack).

I do know that these meassurments are correct with the apex mountain 2006-2009 skid frame ;)!
 
Thanks guys for the replies and info. Sounds like it would be more expense than I can afford to spend right now so maybe I'll just try a tunnel and rail extension for now. I was just thinking with a mtn. skid I would get the added benefit of the weight transfer designed for getting up on top of the snow. We have a RMK 550f 136" that my 12yr.old daughter rides and that gets up on top of the snow much better than my 04' Polaris 700 XC/SP with 136" coupled suspension. If I go the extension route what track would be best for me in say a 151",that's really all the longer I wanted to go anyway but last season some guys had Apex MTN. skids for $200-300.00 with the track so I was considering that length. It would be kind of hard to get it in my trailer though with 3 other 136" sleds. Thanks again guys.

Mike alot of mountain riders don't like the 16" wide track they go to a 15" as they say the 16" makes it too hard to lean it over and carve. This is what i've read over at Snowest anyway. I could have gotten a 16x151x2 real cheap but passed on it for this very reason. But this was the post I was looking for so thanks. Gene
 
I Just got some WRP mountain tuff boards for my shorty apex extended to 144. They are for the mountain apex, I hope they fit my shorty apex.
