Is anyone using a knock box? I did a search and found a few positive posts and few negative about the Parker set up. I see g-force offers one as well. This would be a valuable instrument for me as I may have to use questionable fuel in the back 40 (Maine) and I would like to have some warning if the octane number on the pump might be different than the octane of the fuel being pumped. Are the knock boxes accurate and what are some of the experiences people have had with them? Thanks.

I tryed the parker and didn't like it.The sensitivity could either be set so light that it never went off or so sensitive that it always went off.I took it off so that it wouldn't distract me.L

I use it... saved me a cople times.... and savec my whole engine last winter.
Only thing, you must not chicken off each time it will blink.... only when it blinks like hell.

Yes was a VERY VERY good idea but in the real world it fell short for me.

Man, I could write a book on how these boxes do and don't work.

Sounds like I should invest in the meth kit and not worry about it.(Recommended by another TY member) I do however think there would be a market for a knock box that was a little more user friendly.

I agree. If there was a detonation sensor that could be relied on,I'd own it.I really haven't found one yet so thats why we came up with the Hurricane meth kits for sleds

not trying to get off topic here - kinda related - since we seem mostly thumbs down on Parker.
How do the systems on turbo/non turbo cars/bikes/sleds work?
My wifes Polaris IQLX Turbo supposedly compensates for bad (low octane) fuel by reducing boost/retarding timing etc. I think there are more examples out there - How do they detect detonation?

His kit works, it just needs the sensitivity some how preset for each motor...... It is too hard to set buy just turning alittle screw....

Remember the stories I told you about at least two time knock sensor saved my engine from complete destruction?

I remember but there were 4 or 5 stories about the sensitivity issue. Please explain how you set yours up because I am really considering one to run in tandem with a meth kit. If it would work I think using the relay on the knock to trigger the meth would be a great set up for long trips when it may be difficult to carry quantities of meth and race fuel. I am scepticle if the technology is there yet.

I do run meth AND knock sensor.
I don't see why someone would run differently with a knock sensor than without. I don't see this as a money saver, only as another tool to help save the engine... just like boost gage or afr gage or oil pressure gage, etc...
Last time it saved my engine was not even because of detonation... I had a broken wrist pin and the knock sensor would blink even at part thtottle... I was like WTF... so I stopped and could hear a distinct ticking noise on engine at idle.
stopped right there and was towed back home.
I first though it was a oil starvation issue... but not at all... later found the piston had some slack because of the broken wrist pin and tne knock sensor 'sensed' that noise and saved my engine from much more catastrophic damage.
this alone paid more than all my knock sensors.
