How do I go about filling the bars with foam? Do I need to cut the ends off of the grips or by taking the rivot out with the grips slide off? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is a hole at the end of the grip. Stick the nozzle in and spray it. WARNING: It does make a big mess. What I did was took painters tape and taped the grips and then also tape bages at the ends of the handle bars to catch the overflow. I also put towels over all plastics for a just in case. You only have to spray in one end of the bars cause it does go all the way threw. Hope this helps and good luck. ;)!

I'm curious as to how well it goes for you cause i'm planning on doing this myself soon. And I'm not gonna lie, I would like to learn from your mistakes if thats alright, haha. :tg: Thanks!

I tried it last season with my F7 as I was having an intermitent problem...when they warmed up the crap melted and came out the hole and dripped onto the gas tank..I had to put a plug in the end...not sure I'd go that route again.

did it last year on my Nytro worked great. It definitely helped but they still weren't warm enough. Bought rockmiesters kit for this year. When you foam the bars use Great Stuff I used the expanding stuff and as the other poster said tape bags to the end of the bars and let it sit like that over night because it will come out the ends and it is a pain to get it off your sled. Good luck

DON'T DO IT! Take it from me, I tried, its a massive mess and never seems to end, it never comes off your jacket and pants. Spend the money and get the rockmiesters plug and play kit. I just installed one last week. It helped to have the laptop on the workbench to refer to, but it turned out to be easy once I was into it. I have also installed the RSI grip last year and they helped but not enough.

it is a waste of time, go buy rocks yamaheaters.
I have made about every variation of bar/heater/grip combination on the last three sleds.

I used gasket material on the last set to isolate the heater from the metal bar, used rsi grip heaters with rsi grips, heaters made for hooked ends. they still did not put out the heat like any of the bars i used on other sleds. Is about the output. I bought a yamaheater and now I can burn my hands in a few minutes and rarely run them on the yamaheater setting for very long and then go back to stock.

It is not the bars or the heaters, they work fine, I know because I used a set on my 02 viper and they put out great heat.

125$ and your done worring about the heaters.

X2, I gave up! and bought a YAMAHEATER control box and works AWSOME!!! can't wait for SNOW and COOOOLD weather :brrr: NO MORE FREEZING my f'n hands :jump:

Well i bought the yamaheater earlier this fall, haven't installed it yet. Just thought I'd spray some foam in for a little extra, and I read it can help stop vibration in the bars a little. But...now that I hear it can melt the foam out and create a huge mess, I might just forget about it. I've had that "great stuff" all over me before and it SUCKED

you may want to pick up an isovibe, they work great, had mine on last three sleds and it has saved me some jambed wrists many times. cuts down on vibration a bit as well.
Grip and Rip Racing in maine sells and builds them.

he also sells a slug that goes in the end of the bar to stop vibration.

a large heavy weight inside or on the end of the bar end but not welded to it will remove vibration. hooked bars are hard to get them into though.

I'm not sure what those guys used to have such a gooey mess on there cloths and sleds. But I've never seen Great Stuff expanding foam melt and become gooey again. So you guy had me curious and I did an experiment. So I took some of the foam that was already dried and heated it up and it never mealted it just burned into flames. So I also put it in a pan and heated it up and still never mealted or gooed all over as some have said it would. So now I'm curious what you guys used to have handle bars that are leaking all over your sleds and clothing. :dunno:

Bars

From experience.....

two years ago me and my crew were in Big Bay when one of the guys said he was going to fill all our bars with the Great Stuff foam, "Should help with the heat." So he did. That morning was cold, around -10 to -15 degrees. We all thought it would be great to better heat in our yamaha bars.

After he sprayed the foam into the bars he came back inside the motel and we waited about ten minute before going back out. What did we find? Yellow glue dripping out of six yamaha sleds handle bars. The foam never set up. We had to plug the ends of the bars with a bolt in order to keep the foam (glue) from dripping out. For the remaining season and into the summer I left the bolts in the bars. Over the summer I pulled the bolts out of the bars, and what a joy to find, the foam never set up and expanded. For about two hours I had glue drippping out of the bars again.

If you are going to spray the foam in the bars make sure it is warm when you spray them, and let them dry completly before you do anything with the sled or bars. The foam does not come out of your gear (conversation piece for me and my castle gear) but if the foam does dry completly it will make a little difference. Not a huge difference for heat, but a touch.
;)!
