I have 130 miles on my new 09 XTX and I need to put on my third set of hyfax. First set lasted 90 miles and next set lasted 40. I have read many , many articles about hyfax wear on this forum. I do not want to buy a pile of wheels and try and reengineer the skid. To be completely honest , YOU shouldn't have to. It's completely gay! If there is not a simple fix, (like a fast adjustment) then I'll just sell this peice of junk.
Signed,
Frustrated as hell.

I feel your pain my 08 RTX was the same way along with the other two in our group, they were sold 1/2 way through the season.

I am not saying you guys are crazy, but something is wrong with your sleds or you are spending all your time on ice. I would almost bet you could drive 130 miles on pavement and not need to start on your third set LOL.

I have probably 800 or 900 miles on mine and lots of life left. I would be taking this sled to dealer and have them check some things out. I know the yammis can be hard on sliders, but this is insane.

Up until this year I haven't done too bad on Hy-FAX, but this year has been insane. I have right at 400 miles on these Hy-Fax and they are junk. I am not one to buss down a hard packed trail and not jump into some loose powder. I have had over 4000 miles on a Polaris and still looked good. This is a little excessive!
And why are these sleds so hard on hyfax, I know yamahahas have always been known to eat up slides.

I found too for some reason the colored yamaha sliders wore out way quicker. Maybe something in the died plastic?

Pull the front strap two holes... this will help alot. Add 135mm wheels and be done with the slide issue for good.

Ok I would change the limiter straps if that would help, but don't you have to change the mounts for the wheels too.

When you change them out is is because it is at the wear line? Or over? Because our xtx melted them down to the wear line at the bend in the first 100 miles and stayed there for the last 600 miles...

something is wrong with your sled i have 1500 miles on a set on my xtx and there is still plenty left

You have to buy skidoo two bolt mounts to replace the stock mounts... easy and quick fix... the whole setup runs about $175.. will post a post soon with pics and more.

I geuss something could be wrong but it was pulled out of the crate two weeks ago.

How about track tension??? Are you guys running loser than spec?

No, its not your fault or tension. This has been covered numerous times... all the nytros except a few are having wear problems. Its an engineering problem, the only way to my knowledge to fix it is upgrading wheels and adding wheels... until then its dealing with drag/wearing hyfax/track. There are some who say "must be something your doing wrong" but in reality they got the luck of the draw and have the 4% of current model yamaha's that don't have slide wear problems. Take a poll and you will see the results. Add small mid wheel kits, and replace them out every 1200miles, add new oversized idlers and replace those out every 2500-5000 miles, do nothing and change you hyfax every 600-1000 miles.. its your decision.

Rayman, please do not take this as a negative to what you have said, as you may have missed this in his original post.

I agree with what you have said, and I am ok changing out the hyfax at 1000 miles if that is what it ends up being, but he said he is on his THIRD set in 130 miles. That is not normal. There must be more to this to be taking them out that fast

Problem with the clips on track, track insanely tight..... something.

He ll the mountain sleds with virtually no wheels can make it a lot longer than this in poor conditions.

Hope someone can figure out what is happening to you.

Could you give me part numbers for wheels and mounts, I would appreicate your help. It's either this or sell it.
Thanks

Yes, Yamahas are hard on slides but 90 miles & then 40 miles on a set?! Something is definitely not right! Take the sled in & have them check over your skid if you figure you've tried what you can. I have 750 miles on this set & still have almost half left!
