here are some pics of the protector i put on when i added the rear heat exchanger to my 2006 attak.
as you can see there are some scratches in the exchanger. i origionally had stacked 2 pieces of 3/8" thick aluminum together and it was not enough so i removed them and added a piece of 1/4" thick material and it now seems fine. there is 1 1/4" square aluminum stock in the rear riveted to the tunnel to proveide support.

what size studs are you running

protectors

they are a 1.75 stud from extreme
they arn't sized the same as a woodys stud
they extend about 3/8" above the track lugs

studs

extreme deos not measure there studs the same as other companies.the 1.75 is the overall measuement of the stud. shorter than the 1.45 studs you will be using.

i see, how do you like them, does it hook good

STUDS

not really but i don't raunch on it too hard out of the hole or at really low speeds. if i am not set up for ice rases i only run from a 30 or 40 mile per hour roll on. spinning is just too hard on riggin.

i hear ya

Zeke,
I have a rear cooler but have not installed it yet on my 07 Attak as I too am running studs. Have you found that after installing the protector you have lost much travel to your rear suspension? That has been my concern and why I haven't pursued installing the cooler. From what I have read here it sounds like we need about 1 1/4 to 1 1/2" of protection over the cooler. I would like the extra cooling though in marginal conditions and ice running.

COOLER

i also had the thought of loosing travel when installing the cooler but finally had to when the sled overheated in not really what i would call bad cond. twice this year. thta was after draining the coolant and refilling with 50/50 and water wetter.
anyway now with the cooler no overheating pronblems and that was with one trip down an icy plowed road for over 50 miles.

i had the rear shock revalved and have not noticed the lack of travel. i only bottomed once and scratched the cooler and then added another 1/4" of aluminim stock.

i think it should be ok now from the measuements i have taken.

Nice pics will help a lot of guy!! good work.

I have a cooler on mine with Woodys 1.325's 162 down the middle.
I found less then 1 1/2 in. of protecton over the cooler will allow the studs to scrape. I have the big boy spring and revalved shock and find the ride better then ever in the 6000 miles I have on it.
I don't thing the 1 1/2 in. is going to affect much travel. Didn't notice it much on mine even before the big boy spring.
Less then 1 1/2 and it will scrap. Mine did with 1 1/8 in. Not every time but it did. Still have the scrape marks on the cooler fins.

Is that the Yamaha cooler for the Attak? The one the dealer showed me looks to be half that size.
Did you need to reinforce the top of the tunnel extension when you riveted on the standoffs or was it strong enough?
