I noticed at the end of last year my 07 er sounded a little off, and after reading on here it sounds like the manifold or the donuts are leaking. since i have to mess with it i was wondering about doing some exhaust mods. i thought about gutting the stock. But was unsure if it requires back pressure at all, or how this would work out. I see sledneck22 has done this feed back? please.

When I bought my sled this was already done so I can't comment on the performance aspect of it but I can say parked next to a non gutted one mine definatly sounds cooler...and if it sounds cooler it has to be faster!!!! Not loud at all just a little more deep rumble. I know I saw a post on here before and that is how he did it. Just cut the top, peel back, remove stock of the crossover tubes and then re-weld shut. As far as back pressure can't answer that one either.

I've run mine gutted since 2003 and have gutted 6 Yamaha buddies since because they love the sound!!!.Mine also is the fastess!!! :-o

I gutted my original one a year ago and regretted it , it sounded cool just horsing around on tight trails but on long runs it just amplified the resonation in the exhaust to the point where i had headaches from long rides. Just my 2cents on it. Im back to a stock exhaust now and still enjoying the "symphonic tones " that Yamaha delivered .

Huh thats a good point, i was not too sure how loud it would be with the exhaust out the back. I had a loud can on my 600 sx and i liked it and the exhaust came out right in front of me. lol i hate decision making

Not sure how much louder this is...but I do know that loud pipes is one big reason that the public is always tring to get our trails shut down. Please do NOT make it real loud unless you only go to a track to race :flag:

Effects on performance will be NEGLIGIBLE. Effects on your hearing will be DETRIMENTAL. Effects on OTHER PEOPLE's hearing could be CRIMINAL.

I fail to see an upside to this....

exhaust

this topic is interesting....I have a '06 Apex...I love the sled but the damn drone makes my brain itch...It was so bad that I had to wear the foam earplugs to stop the head busting drone...What can be done to remedy it any suggestions...I thought gutting the exhaust may fix it but then I read the latest...Guess I won't go that route...

I gutted mine - regret it big time! On long hauls it's unbearable(I'm talking 350-700kms/day!)

I went back to stock....better ways to make it go fast...the noise is loud...sounds definitely good at idle or at the meets but going down trails it's annoying - and trail wardens can tell!

My 2 cents!

We did it to a friend of mines and he was not happy with it. we followed the step by step post. It puts off an annoying drone sound riding it at certain RPM's. I believe there is a certain power loss as these motors like some back pressure at certain RPM's. He did find another stock exhaust and has been happy since.
