'06 Venture RS Handling - think I might be buying an Arctic Cat

Also, as far as a 2-up goes, I've really enjoyed the Yamaha. Best 2-up I've ever piloted with a passenger on it. I just don't ride 2-up anymore.

'06 Venture RS Handling - think I might be buying an Arctic Cat

It's just a loaner sled I don't even register and use locally and to break my own trail to the club trails - about 3/4 of a mile. It is a powervalve model, injected, and the owner has had it since new and kept it in really nice shape. About 8,000 miles on it and it has never had the top end...

'06 Venture RS Handling - think I might be buying an Arctic Cat

Funny you mention that. I'm looking at a '03 XCSP 600 for exactly that reason. My better half is selling me on a mid-oo's AC F6. Rode an edge chassis once and was impressed. Haven't ridden an F6. I was considering one of the newer Phazers which seems like riding a tall motocross bike, which...

'06 Venture RS Handling - think I might be buying an Arctic Cat

My transfer rods are almost all the way out - "third line" according to the manual, which would be at their greatest extension. Doing that helped my issues quite a bit. Like you predicted, these adjustments made the steering a bit heavier, but it is a good price to pay to make it handle better...

'06 Venture RS Handling - think I might be buying an Arctic Cat

To do this type of alignment, is it best to simply adjust until the distance between the tips of the skis equals the distance between the rear of the skis? My sled has 8,2XX miles on it now so the front end isn't quite factory tight, but isn't terrible. Thank you!

'06 Venture RS Handling - think I might be buying an Arctic Cat

Yup, that's exactly what I did. I drilled a hole in the center of the straps then cauterized it with a soldering iron about 1-1/4" above the top hole that the bottom fastener goes through. This left an only slight curve to the straps. That made the biggest difference of all the adjustments I...

'06 Venture RS Handling - think I might be buying an Arctic Cat

I'm so happy with the Venture now. Everyone, Catman in particular, really sent me in the right direction. Now it actually handles like a snowmobile. A speedy corner-carver? Well, no. But that's not what it's for. I will now enjoy the rest of the season riding comfortably and knowing the sled...

'06 Venture RS Handling - think I might be buying an Arctic Cat

Well, I did the following this morning and settings are as follows: - transfer rods to 1-1/4" (almost the 3rd and last bar marker) - center shock full soft - front shock preloads to 1 step away from least preloaded - rear preload "triangle" to medium from soft Rode it about an hour ago and it...

'06 Venture RS Handling - think I might be buying an Arctic Cat

Also - Am I doing myself a huge disservice by running the 2-up blocks in the "up" position (preloading the torsion arms a little more). The sled just seems to do a little better with them in that position. For the record, I only weigh 150 pounds so I'm like a mosquito on the back of an elephant...

'06 Venture RS Handling - think I might be buying an Arctic Cat

There is a transfer rod - which direction does it go for minimum transfer. I think you're on to something there - too much weight transfer allows for too much front end "bite" under deceleration, causing it to sometime violently change direction. It tracked so badly tonight for some reason...

'06 Venture RS Handling - think I might be buying an Arctic Cat

I do have those exact carbides. Front shocks are preload only. I will tighten up the limiter strap tomorrow afternoon, punching an extra hole if need be because I believe there are only two settings in it and there is lots of slack as it sits. Is there an optimum tightness for the straps...

'06 Venture RS Handling - think I might be buying an Arctic Cat

I have tried just about every suspension setting there is on this sled. Tonight the trails were nicely groomed overall, quite smooth from above-freezing temps which re-froze last night. Current settings are: - 1 step away from highest preload on the fronts - 1 step away from the highest preload...

Winter's coming! RS Venture noob questions...

Upcoming is my first full season with a 06 Venture RS. Put about 2k on it in the last third of this past season. After figuring out how the suspension settings work I was able to figure out how to make it handle like a snowmobile - goes where you point it, stable, not too much upper body...

Which triple tuning fork should I buy as a 1-up runabout?

Things changed yesterday. I was returning from ice fishing (great day) and the old Mule (89 polaris 340) finally disintegrated on the way home, literally leaving half of the skid and its suspension parts and bolts all over the trail. After stopping and picking it all up, I continued home with...

Which triple tuning fork should I buy as a 1-up runabout?

If I could have only one sled that wasn't a 2-up it would certainly be an Apex from everything I'm learning.

Which triple tuning fork should I buy as a 1-up runabout?

I've been leaning towards the Phazer since I'll never go faster than 80 mph - is the XTX the long track? Is the basic concept that it is a bit tippy but also willing to change direction the moment you think about it? Does the 144 track turn in a bit more sluggishly than the 121. It does seem...

Which triple tuning fork should I buy as a 1-up runabout?

So is a Nytro sort of half way between a Phazer and an Apex? Everyone seems to indicate an XTX across the board. Are these the longer track version?

Which triple tuning fork should I buy as a 1-up runabout?

So I thought I would draw on the huge brain trust here at TY. Right now I have a stable of two sleds - an old Polaris 340 long track that hauls my wood, maintains my trails and takes me ice fishing (or ice drinking as they call it around here). The other is a Yamaha Venture RS which I've...

Towed another SkiDoo. Third time this season.

That is the best and most accurate gif I've ever seen. Hopefully, I'll be towing a lightweight REV next time and not a mid-90's 2-up touring model.

Towed another SkiDoo. Third time this season.

Thank you very much. I just learned something new and appreciate it. Hopefully there will be no more of this with any luck. If there is, I'll definitely take the belt off of the injured sled (Batting 0.666 on that one this season) and have the owner get a running start. There should be AAA for...
